I don't think mortarmen are light infantry

Bro, it's my job: I do it every day. I think I know my own job title and classification. I could take a picture of my official orders for you, but I don't really feel like losing my secret clearance and getting in legal trouble just to validate myself to a complete stranger on the internet.

Just for future reference, since maybe you're not from America and don't know how we do military stuff: if you're infantry and you're moving under your own power (i.e. not in a vehicle) you're "Light Infantry." Infantrymen can carry 60mm mortars. Now, once you get into 81mm and 120mm, we put those in vehicles to haul around, so they'd be classified as "Mechanized Infantry" or just "Mechs." But if you're in the 11 series of MOS's and you're walking to get around, you're Light Infantry.

AH! That's what you get for joining 11b. Just be happy you didn't get stuck with the SAW, buddy of mine told me that if you're not carrying at least 600 rounds, and a fucking bandoleer of grenades, when you go out of the wire, you get your shit chewed out. Always go with the Air Force, best bases, best food, best jobs, best Spec Ops, and our Psych Ops have a good sense of humor. You can make all the chair force jokes you want, just remember, there's an Air Man, on his base, who is sipping on a coffee ice cream milkshake, talking to his buddies about how he can experience his suck in controlled bursts, and doesn't have to wash rocks, because he's a boot.

98% of munitions fired in war are suppressive fire and not really meant to hit anything. Check out statistics for confirmed kills versus shots fired/munitions spent.

Carpet bombing is probably one of the most accurate weapon systems by that standard.

Bro, you should see my armor: it's got six mag pouches and one first aid kit. Gotta keep your priorities straight.

I carry pretty much the same shit unless I arm up with a 203.

Or i'll get stuck with a 249 or 240.

#36 - trainalf (01/22/2014) [-]
How the hell does a mortar way that much? I thought it was just a plate, bi-bod, and metal tube.
#79 - fresighto (01/22/2014) [-]
Depends on which MM you're hauling. 41's, 60's, or 82's.
The cannon on an 82 alone is like 100
#43 - thaigr (01/22/2014) [-]
Tube's 15, bipod's 15, plate's 15, and the sight is like 2.5ish. Overall 48ish pounds. Also every round is 15 pounds.

All these 15's are clearly the work of the Illuminati. Lazy bums couldn't come up with a viable 15 pound sighting unit though. Heck, I would have even accepted 15 ounces.

#32 - thaigr (01/22/2014) [-]
Armor = 40ish pounds
M4 + 210 rds of 5.56 ammo + M9 sidearm = 17 pounds
M224 60 mm mortar system = 50ish pounds
60 mm mortars x 8 = 120 pounds (those bad boys are heavy. 8 is pretty much maxing it.)
72 hour ruck with standard kit (extra uniform, entrenching tool, water, etc.) = 35ish pounds.
Me = 148 pounds

In conclusion I probably should have joined the Air Force.
