Sorry, 24 by whatever was in the brackets. But yeah, it's 1127.

all of the bigger things are cheaper, but milk does not cost 8 dollars a gallon. that is the only thing more expensive back then.

Isn't tuition at Harvard like $40'000?
User avatar #51 - stillnotbob (12/21/2013) [-]
$8 for a gallon of milk? Thank god for market competition.
#40 - anonymous (12/21/2013) [-]
So basically, Politicians and banks have lied to us and the inflation for some products is way higher than it should be.
User avatar #38 - goobyman (12/21/2013) [-]
and you americans cry paying 1,65 DOLLARS for A GALLON OF GASOLINE
In Germany, 1 Liter= 1 Euro 60
that's 8.29 dollars for 1 gallon of gasoline.
depending on what you take, give or take about 20 Euro cents.
User avatar #63 - Maroon (12/22/2013) [-]
You guys have a dependable public transportation system available in more areas. Here it's get a car or learn to enjoy the feeling of knives in your kidney.
User avatar #43 - Lambda (12/21/2013) [-]
How do people manage to afford to drive at all? We pay like $3,70 per gallon where I am. I, for one, can barely afford to fill my tank most of the time. If gas prices ever got as high as you guys have, I wouldn't be able to afford driving at all.
Do most people use public transportation there?
User avatar #49 - furryflava (12/21/2013) [-]
yeah they do, i've read up on germany because im currently learning the language at my high school. i think 95% of germans have cars but only 40% actually use them, or something it was weeks ago when i first learned that
also renting commercial gardens is a thing there too
#69 - thumbwhoremuch (12/22/2013) [-]
I've lived here for 6 months now, my first month here I got a train pass that allowed me to literally get on any train to go anywhere in Germany without making reservations. I saved a shit ton of money and got to explore literally all over the country.

Yeah. We don't have that shit in the US.
User avatar #19 - gaffateip (12/21/2013) [-]
Norwegian prices for the interested.
Average house = 400,000$ (Pretty sure it's more)
Average income = 73,386$
New car = 44,88$
Average rent = 1,944$
-----------------------------
Movie ticket = 15$
Gas = 2,5$ pr. Litre
Stamps = 1,377$ and up

-Food-

Sugar = 5,67$ pr.kg
Milk = 2,50$ pr. litre
Coffe = 16,2$ pr.kg
Bacon = 40$ pr.kg
Eggs = 3,24$ for 6 eggs
User avatar #75 - gaffateip (12/22/2013) [-]
Ok, I see now why my commas confuse people.
let me try again.

House : 400 000$
Income : 73 386$
Car : 44 800$
Rent : 1 944$
-----------
Movie ticket : 15$
Gas : 2,5 pr. litre
Stamps : 1,377$

-food-

Sugar : 5,67$ pr.kg
Milk : 2,50$ pr. litre
Coffe : 16,2$ pr.kg
Bacon : 40$ pr.kg
Eggs : 3,24$ for 6 eggs

My deepest apologies for fucking up the natural order of large numbers and decimals
User avatar #54 - chaosacaza (12/22/2013) [-]
Your numbers are really wrong.. I don't even live in Norway and i know that..

Average house = 555000 euro (couldnt be bothered changing)
Average income = 35,406$
New car = highly debatable
Average rent = 1,800$
-----------------------------
Movie ticket = idk
Gas = 2.25$ pr. Litre
Stamps = 1,377$ and up <--- i dont even fucking know why you started using comma's

Food-

Sugar = 4.75$ pr.kg
Milk = 2,28$ pr. litre
Coffee = idk
Bacon = idk
Eggs = 4.55$ for 12 eggs

Why post if your numbers are clearly wrong if a country had an average income of 73000 no one would hire you believe me i know the average wage here is 42000 and there is literally no jobs for anyone but people who are multilingual.

To put into perspective Norway has a population of 5 mill + right that means with your average wage the whole of Norway would be making 372029900000 (thats three hundred seventy-two billion twenty-nine million nine hundred thousand) which is about half how much the us has spent on Afghanistan since 2001.

Four dollars for a movie ticket?
Me and my brother are going to have to pay thirty for Hobbit.
Though it will be worth every cent.
#12 - infinitereaper (12/21/2013) [-]
In comparison to today:
Average Cost
House: $270,000
New Car: $31,000
Rent: $500+ (varies)
Tuition to Harvard= $38,891 (per year)
A movie ticket: $1,028,1208,38244,20283o8101

User avatar #14 - leglesslegolegolas (12/21/2013) [-]
Where I live, a new car is around $20,000, rent is $500-600 and movie tickets are $15 for Imax 3D.

That calculation just corrected for inflation, it did not take into account the price for oil today. $1.65/gal would be nice though
