Actually animals slaughtering is pretty brutal, in fact the whole food industry is some of the nastiest and cruelest shit you've ever seen and we swallow it everyday. Pisses me off. There just aren't any rules, and none lets people inside the factories. When they do get it in, its usually never pretty.

Not every farm does this. The big firms (Cargill comes first to mind) usually get away with it, but there are a lot of small farms and family farms that treat and slaughter their livestock in a less brutal fashion.
Of course the whole thing would be a lot less of an issue if the Government would just get the hell out of the way and stop picking winners and losers across the marketplace.
Rules wouldn't help, rules only make it worse, making the big companies bigger ( in turn giving them more political power and continuing the vicious circle) and driving away competition. Who do you think makes the rules? Congress. Do you really trust the Government (most of whom have not worked on a farm a day in their life) to know what's best over the combination of farmers and consumers who actually participate in the marketplace?

True, but the goal of Capitalism is to do things in the most efficient and consumer friendly way. Of course we demand food. Over 90% of us don't grow/raise our own food. However, humanely raised and unprocessed meat tastes better to most people, as well as produces less guilt and grants companies less flak from environmentalists, so there is a demand for humanely treated animals as well. It's possible to be efficient enough to produce enough food while at the same time producing the food in a better way, however when the Government gets involved the big agricultural firms don't have to innovate to stay competitive because they're protected from smaller firms through regulation, which makes it more difficult to be a small agricultural business, which is why most of the market is dominated by 4 big firms here in the US.
Same thing with cable, internet, phone companies, and many other industries across the marketplace. Regulation is incredibly painful for an economy.
