Just getting ready for my birthday, helping my parents cook dinner and messing around online. You?
#4 to #3 - xxslayenone (02/06/2015) [-]
just got finished for the day working in the yard, burning a bunch of stuff and all. Now I have a mighty need for food.

That image perfectly sums up life with a Jewish mother.

I don't believe I've ever had dinner with a Jewish family but Greeks are very similar in that regard.
#9 to #8 - tehfriman (02/06/2015) [-]
I imagine it is quite similar. Doubly so when you consider the fact that a good portion of Jewish cuisine is either adapted from Greek food or just a kosher version of Greek food.

Hmmm True, i never really considered that.

Take Shawarma for example. It is just a Gyro with different seasoning.
#12 to #11 - xxslayenone (02/06/2015) [-]
I still don't fully understand what shawarma... but i do know gyros are fantastic
#13 to #12 - tehfriman (02/06/2015) [-]
It is very similar to a gyro. It is meat (usually lamb beef or turkey) grilled on a vertical spit that is shaved off and usually eaten in pita bread or on a laffa (a sort of thick chewy wrap). The main difference is the sauce it is served with as instead of tzatziki we use hummus or tehini.

Ah okay cool, I honestly think americas recent obsession with hummus started with Adam Sandlers Zohan movie.

I've been eating it long before that movie came out. In fact I always find it a bit surreal that people who aren't Jewish or middle-eastern eat it. I think it is just another in a long line of health food crazes that Americans have bastardized from their native countries.
#16 to #15 - xxslayenone (02/06/2015) [-]
That's kinda what America is though, As much as the government shows otherwise being all upper class white bastards It's a melting pot of cultures.

I find the Borg from Star Trek to be a good analogy. There is a lot of diversity but it tends to get assimilated and become samey. I know this because I work in a grocery store and often find it quite amusing what the stores mostly rich white clientele buy trying to be diverse.

I work at a grocery store too but It's a lower to middle class area, and everyone buys a little of everything, certainly most of the lower income people buy the cheapest they can but when its time for a celebration they get all kinds of stuff
What kind of store is it that you work at? I work at a Food Lion
#19 to #18 - tehfriman (02/06/2015) [-]
I work at a kings. They are a small chain of upscale supermarkets based primarily in New Jersey. I cater mostly to rich white people the occasional rich black person (there are like 5 of them total) and their primarily Hispanic housekeepers. Working there I have learned that the only thing worse than an entitled rich person is an entitled poor person who is desperately trying to look like a rich person (that last group is the subject of all my best retail horror stories).

#21 to #20 - tehfriman (02/07/2015) [-]
I may have to post some of them. I'll need to find the time to write them out but I definitely have a few gems.
