USB 3.1 can be plugged in either orientation, it's great.
But that's just a bonus they made whilst they were designing 3.1, the main reason it's possible to plug in both ways is because they use both sides of the male plug to connect to the female socket, so they decided to make both sides the same (which doesn't affect speed at all)

Really? Why didn't you go with something like a 7850? You would have gotten a bit more power and double the VRAM. They both released around the same time.

Because 7770 was what I needed at the time. I may go nvidea for the cuda cores to speed up video rendering in sony vegas.

#123 - corps (03/08/2015) [-]
I'll address this entire conversation as a whole.

The Marine Corps is a division of the US Navy, it's not uncommon for the Marines to work around and help the Navy since that's the reason the Marines came to be in the first place: the Navy couldn't afford to send boots on the ground because if they did there would be nobody to man the ships, thus the Marine Corps was born. The Marines not only receive more training than other soldiers normally would, but they are the first to deploy in times of war. This is why they have more respect than your average soldier. If you're going to stand there and call them "average soldiers" you obviously don't know what you're talking about, and probably shouldn't be saying anything about them in the first place.

Lastly, I'm not sure where you're coming from when you're saying all American soldiers are arrogant. The only thing that anyone might confuse with arrogance is our pride. And those are two different things which have completely different meanings. Everybody in the military knows their place, and most are too busy working their asses off to walk around with their nose in the air. God forbid anybody have a little respect and pride for something they are apart of that's bigger than themselves, right?

I haven't met any marines, but the way they have been depicted seems prideful, but arrogant, I don't mind someone taking pride in their work - but a lot of what I have seen, have been the "marines are the best huah!" type stuff, which comes off as arrogance rather than "just" pride, I don't say that that is how marines actually act, that's just what I've seen myself, which granted, isn't a lot.
How much training does a marine do before deployment? just curious, I did basic the army (not american of course) and was planning on a military career, but budget cuts plus no more combat troops to afghan and before the whole ukraine shit started meant that I could be a truck driver and help pack down a base or sit around playing soldier in a backyard somewhere... which I didnt wanna do
User avatar #142 - corps (03/08/2015) [-]
Even the whole "Marines are the best" thing would just be interpreted as pride. But also, any branch of the military gives all the other branches hell about how their branch is the best. It's all in good fun, though. The Marines as a branch have a different culture than the rest of the branches. Their humor some people might not understand, for example.

Boot camp in the Marines is longer than normal. Also, regardless of the MOS a Marine has, they are all trained as rifleman. Even a chef would be trained as a basic rifleman. As for the specific extra training they receive, I'm not entirely sure what it includes because I myself haven't experienced it yet. In any US military branch, training exercises and such are typically kept on the down-low, because it would be useless to fight an enemy if they could just jump on the internet and read about your fighting techniques and strategies.

In case you were wondering, I'm in the Marine Corps DEP right now. Shipping to boot camp in August. Until then, being in the DEP, we meet with our recruiters once or twice a week to PT and they have us memorize a lot of the information we'll need later on. I'm not claiming to be a Marine, and I'm not claiming to be an expert on the topic, but the Marines are definitely not just average arrogant soldiers.
User avatar #143 - zaywoot (03/08/2015) [-]
... Yeah, but I didn't interpret the "marines are the best" as just pride, my experience of it have had it seem like it went quite a bit beyond pride.
I definitly get how different branches give each other shit, we did that too, especially one branch, I was in the guard hussar regiment, which was a cavalry regiment, now they do recon and what in danish is called panser infanteri, I guess thats either armored or heavy infantry in english where I did basic at the recon battalion - the guard hussars have a friendly rivalry going on with the royal life guards...
I dont know what longer than normal is, since I dont know what normal is in the US armed forces, nor do I know what the abbreviations stand for, so that doesn't help a whole bunch, I just wanted to know how much time was spent training before deployment, a year? 6 months? Obviously I wouldn't expect you going into detail - I was just looking for a number
User avatar #145 - corps (03/09/2015) [-]
Boot camp is a little over 3 months, whereas in other branches it's around 2-2 1/2 months. As for deployment, it would depend on your MOS, but 6 months to a year would be about right. I guess I misinterpreted what you were trying to ask. My bad.

MOS- Military occupational specialty, basically military slang for job. For example: rifleman, chef, mechanic, etc.

Also, DEP stands for delayed entry program, In the DEP you're already processed and sworn in. It's basically a fancy acronym for someone who's waiting to go to boot camp.
User avatar #146 - zaywoot (03/09/2015) [-]
alright, in denmark, we do 3/4 months of basic training (you move on to the next part after 3 months if you sign up to continue in QRF (or standing army if you're not chosen for deployment), sergeant or officers school) then you do about 9 months of additional training before deployment

Damn, talking about this makes me feel odd... as I said, I had planned on a military career for most of my life and then it just kinda fell apart, fucking budget cuts and my fucking CO, some 23 year old second lieutenant who thought I should go be a medic instead of staying in recon, when I went to the other regiment where they have the medic/rescue guys I was told I had no chance of deployment with them, because of what I wrote before, so I quit that, came back to the recon place and finished the last month of basic, if I had to go potentally lose my life, it would be on my own premises, I couldnt do that anymore, so at least I wanted to go have fun with the friends I made, then during some combat drills my CO told me that he should've gotten me a spot at recon, that he misjudged me, I applied again for the next group to train for QRF but was declined, the spots fill up so fast...
User avatar #147 - corps (03/09/2015) [-]
Wow, that sucks man. I'm going to be a rifleman just like my relatives, I'm not sure where I want to go with it in the future but I wanted to start out as a grunt. I also want to make a career out of it. Any chance of you getting back in still?
