Our planet has multiple names (The World, Sol III, Tellus, Terra), I think that the preacher in whiterun just refers to his planet as 'an earth' instead of 'the earth'.

Also, because if your first reaction, I looked up the other continents. Damn that is interesting! Fro the elder Scrolls wiki: The notably large continent on the planet is called Tamriel, which is where all of the Elder Scrolls games take place. With an another similarly large continent to the east of Tamriel, this continent is named Akavir. To the North of Tamriel is the cold barren land called Atmora, which is where the Nords of Tamriel hailed from. To the west of Tamriel lies Yokuda, which was the former homeland of the Redguards of Tamriel.

And every single one of those continents has a whole other story... Akatosh, which was the home of the dragons in past ages, is the most interesting one.

i did know this! there is just so much lore in that game its gets me hard! in EOS:OBLIVION they touch lightly on the Akavir's in the lore. whether it be books in the game or finding old ruins in cyrodil and that they once were there then drivin out blows my mind.

I thinks its weird though, the preacher in whiterun talks about corrupt life and shit going on in skyrim, Tameriel, all on Earth, not Nirn.

"For we are the children of man! And we shall inherit both the heavens and the!! earth!!! And we, not the Elves or their toadies, will rule Skyrim! Forever!"

"The very idea is inconceivable to our Elven overlords! Sharing the heavens with us? With man? Ha! They can barely tolerate our presence on !!earth!!!"
#135 - taterbombs (05/31/2012) [-]
you bring up a valid point. i think its lore and writers clashing. cause in oblivion i've read books in the game talking about the planet "nirn" and lore online approved by bethesda calling the planet nirn. yet, we have the preacher calling it earth. in my eyes, a clash.

i'm amazed not many people know the name of the planet. let alone they think that Tameriel is the only Continent. and its really not.
