Now that I can agree with. Taking advantage of a drunk person or pressuring someone are both things that should be taught aren't okay, but as you said outright forced rape is the main focus. However the latest fad of crying rape if a man even so much as looks in a woman's general direction has seriously taken power from the word 'rape' because now when rape is cried people have to stop and ask 'was it actual rape or did she consent and later feel bad about it and claimed it was rape' or 'did a man say hello to her without permission?'

Put simply, the more false rape accusations are made the less we are able to teach young men and women what actual rape is and how to avoid it.

Honestly the entire 'tell men not to rape' thing is ridiculous to begin with. Men are told not to rape and taught it is wrong their entire life. Anyone, male or female (because both rape) who commits rape is well aware it is wrong just like a murderer knows that killing is wrong. Telling them not to do it will not stop them from doing it because clearly they don't care about what is right and what isn't. Women who get angry about methods made to protect them from mentally sick individuals are just ignorant to that ideal
#38 - tastycrisps (11/13/2014) [-]
The current view we as society have on a rapist is some Ted Bundy character who snatches unsuspecting women and drags them into an ally. However that can have some negative results as people will do nasty shit, but since it isn't what is viewed as traditional rape, some won't think it's okay.

It's not like men aren't taught not to rape. Rape is probably one of the highest things on the list of what this society hates the most. The problem is a lot of people think purposefully getting someone drunk to fuck them or pressuring someone into having sex etc. isn't rape.

That's what should be taught. The full extent of when it is not okay to fuck someone.

This in no way implicates I should merely be continually readied for sex and have condoms on for the entirety of my life because I may get into a hot and bothered moment at any time. Likewise rape prevention isn't going to be 24/7 to save my asshole at random. Neither am I going to continuously wear a helmet to protect me from falls and retardation here. Or tin foil hats to prevent Admin from getting into my darkwebs.

Unproven, and also with that reasoning it seems like I understood your meaning perfectly fine.

If it is the cause of static then the reason the statistic exists is because of it, if it caused 72% of diagnosed depression to be women and 75% of suicides to be men then it is the reason for those suicides.

Either back off your original assumption or defend it, you can't have it both ways.

I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at the idea that you misinterpret that sentence.

"The "man up" mentality is what causes 72% of diagnosed depression to be women but 75% of suicides to be men."

cause (kôz)
n.
1.
a. The producer of an effect, result, or consequence.
b. The one, such as a person, event, or condition, that is responsible for an action or result.
2. A basis for an action or response; a reason: The doctor's report gave no cause for alarm.
3. A goal or principle served with dedication and zeal: "the cause of freedom versus tyranny" (Hannah Arendt).
4. The interests of a person or group engaged in a struggle: "The cause of America is in great measure the cause of all mankind" (Thomas Paine).

Proof: Massive heaps of personal accounts given by men. Social observations made by professionals. "

Personal accounts mean nothing as I can easily find cases of men with depression that have had depression for other reasons, and you've provided two sources that speak directly about this supposed "man up mentality", one of them is not identified and both have written one paragraph on the subject.

Your proof is insufficient. At this point you're just being stubborn.

The necessary amount of evidence to make a definitive claim, with as much confidence as you put forth your claim, would have to larger than the vague correlation of statistical numbers and a vague cause put forth by two people, one identified and one not, of which they wrote more than the sum total of two paragraphs.

I would like to remind you that the caliber evidence you presented, if that was the requirement for a reasonable assumption, can easily prove that the earth is flat.

I can do so for you now if you'd like, I can provide a realistic statistic about seismic waves, and I bet I can find two "sources" that connect these seismic waves to a theory about flat earth, and I can get personal accounts from those who have personally experienced a flat earth.

Would you like me to do that, or would you like to rephrase your original claim and save us both the trouble?

Proposition: Men have a social expectation to not show emotion or sensitivity.

Proof: Massive heaps of personal accounts given by men. Social observations made by professionals.
#105 - youregaylol (11/09/2014) [-]
Also I just caught this, your predisposition was not "Men have a social expectation to not show emotion or sensitivity. " it was that a man up mentaility (which I'm guessing is this social expectation) causes these depressions and suicides in men.

Don't distort the argument.
#103 - youregaylol (11/09/2014) [-]
The rest of the stuff I'm not going to address because that's not the issue, this is:

"Proposition: Men have a social expectation to not show emotion or sensitivity.

User avatar #106 - tastycrisps (11/09/2014) [-]
The reason for depression is not the expectation for masculinity thing. It can be a variety of reasons that cause it. The masculinity thing just stops men from talking about their problems and thus commit more suicide.
#107 - youregaylol (11/09/2014) [-]
also unproven, but you said

"The "man up" mentality is what causes 72% of diagnosed depression to be women but 75% of suicides to be men."

is this a roundabout way of backing off your original claim?
User avatar #108 - tastycrisps (11/09/2014) [-]
The original claim never changed, you misinterpreted it.

Men aren't going to kill themselves because some asshole called him a pussy. However the fear of some asshole calling him a pussy if he were to ask for help will prevent him from looking for it. Leaving depression unchecked increases probability of suicide.
#111 - youregaylol (11/09/2014) [-]

X causes y
gunshot causes injury
The "man up" mentality is what causes 72% of diagnosed depression to be women but 75% of suicides to be men.

Explain to me how I misinterpreted that sentence, seems pretty straightforward.

And the rest has no evidence, once again.

I'm going to take the fact that we reached the reply limit as a sign that nothing is going to be accomplished no matter if we argue till the end of time.

you know i was just going to say k and let that be the end of it, but then you had to show your true colors and block me just like the SJW you are.

i fully expect you to delete this message so people don't see how butthurt you are, but i just want the two of us to know what really happened.

today, OP was a fag
User avatar #113 - tastycrisps (11/09/2014) [-]
Its is the cause(if at least an indirect one) of a statistic. Its not the reason they commit suicide, its why they commit more suicide.
#115 - youregaylol (11/09/2014) [-]
Unproven, and also with that reasoning it seems like I understood your meaning perfectly fine.

If it is the cause of static then the reason the statistic exists is because of it, if it caused 72% of diagnosed depression to be women and 75% of suicides to be men then it is the reason for those suicides.

Either back off your original assumption or defend it, you can't have it both ways.

I really hate that question. First reaction is 'fine' but that usually ends the conversation, it implies I'm not interested in talking.
