Wouldn't that make you the Jury? For the large cases the Jury decides, but everyone has to agree on it to make it so. Actually, that is a good point, unless everyone says there is or isn't an afterlife, we will never have an actual thing to have.

Trust me, where I live 99% of people say they are atheists, and they don't even know the true reason of it all. Also, believe in God and you are right, HEAVEN! If not, then theres nothingness. If atheism is right, then its nothingness after death, if not, then its hell.
#82 - thecrazyonedf (07/01/2012) [-]
this is where I slightly disagree with you. while you have the basic idea down, you have to think about this.

christian is wrong: you spent every sunday doing something that counts for nothing in the one shot at life you were given. you took persecution thinking you would be rewarded, but got absolutely nothing.

atheist is right: you spent your sundays getting extra rest and hanging out with friends or doing other important things. you never had to worry about "sinning" and got to have sex before your married.
User avatar #111 - VincentKing (07/02/2012) [-]
The thought of not sinning is basically the same as not breaking the law. You see that there are rules, and you want to follow them, unless you want to end up in hell/jail. By going to church every Sunday, you are giving yourself, and others faith. Without it, a lot of people wouldn't really be here today, just like my aunt and her 2 children. When she was younger, she was in a horrible car crash (she was a passenger) and was told that there is a high chance she will die. Luckily enough, she pulled through. Now you may say this is cause of the doctors, which is true, but her spine had several fractures in it, and she was told she would never be able to control the lower half of her body again. That night, everyone said a prayer for her, and the next day, she had some feeling back.

Maybe God didn't heal her, but if she didn't believe that she would get better, then she may not have. The world needs religion to keep both order, and humanity with us.

We atheists don't "belive" that there's anything after death because we don't know anything about it yet, we lack the evidence of it. Being an atheist is alot like being a judge (not really), you sit at the sideline until you've gotten enough evidence to make a conclusion. Until that evidence has been provided we can't say anything about it.

You did not seriously just use pascals wager is a serious way....yeah it would make sense if it was One religion vs. No religion. But it's actually thousands of religions (Each of which has hundreds or thousands of different sects saying the others are wrong) vs. No religion.

This is ridiculous to actually take seriously lol.

and true reason of it all?...granted you may not agree with them as atheists but there is no 'true reason', it's just disbelief with the evidence provided.
User avatar #46 - VincentKing (07/01/2012) [-]
Sorry, for the main religions that are over here, its heaven and hell. Who knows, maybe heaven is just a state of mind, where before you die, your brain releases a chemical to allow you to see a wonderful place, one that will let you be happy forever. As you die, you just relive the last thing you saw, so it being heaven, heaven being what the person believes to be the afterlife.
User avatar #48 - noblexfenrir (07/01/2012) [-]
Sigh, once your brain stops, your consciousness is gone. You die. That is it.

I get the wanting for something after but for people to delude themselves into religion or science pseudo-religions that use science to prove some things, then take giant leaps to assert an afterlife.

Do we know with absolute certainty? No, but just because we don't know doesn't mean we are to accept absurdity as true or even possible.
User avatar #50 - VincentKing (07/01/2012) [-]
Some say your brain stops, and thats it, others believe in spirits. I believe in spirits/ghosts as the house I am in is in face haunted. You may say that I'm making it up, but hey, if you lived here, you'd agree.
User avatar #75 - whaleking (07/01/2012) [-]
they are demons
User avatar #110 - VincentKing (07/02/2012) [-]
I doubt that some of my families loved ones would become demons. Now if I was talking about the bowling alley, then sure, theres a demon there. Long story short, my eldest brother was closing it up for the night. The power went out, and some dark thing was running through the back hallway. The only other person there was outside trying to fix the power.
User avatar #51 - noblexfenrir (07/01/2012) [-]
Prove to me it's haunted. There shouldn't be a belief or faith factor when the evidence is obviously there to prove it to you. Unless you are predisposed to believing it's haunted which would mean you are going to accept much less evidence then I would for that conclusion.

and yes, when your brain stops that's it. Your 'spirit' is your consciousness, your brain processing information and experiences, reactions, etc etc etc.

For starters, everything that uses speakers in the house will have them all turn up at random times, and on specific songs. You may say faulty wiring BUT for it to happen on ipods and phones is not right. In the loungeroom we have my great uncles cabinet which has a mirror. My brother is a realestate agent and was testing a new program that they got to basically have a virtual tour through a home, and in the picture of the cabinet, it had the shadow of my great uncles head in the mirror. You may say it was my brothers, but it had no camera in front of the face, and no one else was in the room. When my niece was little, she would randomly look at someone at the door. One night when this was happening, she yelled 'Go Away' and a few doors in the house slammed. I saw a strange figure moving around outside, and noticed it stopped at a spot on the fence. I told my mum and we noticed that one of her Angels were missing from the fence. On my grandmothers birthday, my mum burned a candle for her (as she always does) and a pile of wax dripped onto the silk it was sitting on. That night, my mum removed the pile of wax, and in the middle of it, there was a small love heart now stained into the silk. The night when my grandmother died, my brother said he saw her in his room the night she died, and I remember him talking to someone in the room but ignored it, the conversation ended with him saying goodbye to her, not as if she left the room, but that was his goodbye to her from life.

I would post more but being it is 3AM and the fact that writing it all up does give me an eerie feeling makes me just want to go to bed.

Kinda like Mass Effect 3 except I wasn't angry. And it was a somewhat decent ending. Maybe closer to His Dark Materials trilogy ending on second thought.
User avatar #433 - tarnac (06/24/2012) [-]
Yeah. Even though I was sad that they didn't get together I still thought that it was the best ending. It didn't do a massive cliché and made everything sunshine and rainbows youknow? Also, I din't disslike the ending i ME3 so much :P Sure, there were a few loopholes, but all in all it was a pretty good ending :)
