But anyway, what people are referring to as cultural Marxism isn't taking Marx's theories of culture and applying them to our culture, but taking his theories of everything else and applying them to culture. For example, what you just described is pretty much the sort of thing you would find in a bell hooks book, but applied to culture and the concept of a patriarchy.

I agree with you that the term is overused and sounds stupid, but the point I'm making is that it isn't simply Marx's views on culture applied to the real world.
