I was actually raised very Christian. I had to study the Bible a lot as a kid. As you can see though, I eventually developed my own way of thinking apart from that, and here I am.

I doubt you really care anyway, and I know I don't. It is, in fact, a work of fiction intended to give comfort to people, so I say leave it be

Were the rest of the world to realize that it is a work of fiction, I'd have no reason to be so butthurt. I've dealt with fandoms before, I know that if I leave them alone they'll probably leave me alone.

But this is the most pervasive fandom the world has ever seen. This fandom doesn't leave me alone. People with power seriously believe in this stuff, and make judgements and pass laws based upon the things they think are canon, judgements and laws that directly effect me and others.

I've seen no satisfactory, rationalist argument against gay marriage, no good argument for pre-marital abstinence, no good argument against contraception, etc. It's all just JudeoChristian lore trying to worm its way into real life, and it interferes with the way non-JudeoChristians wanna live. And that's where I get confrontational, when people try to push their unsubstantiated beliefs on others.

No offense to you tho, you seem like a cool guy. The way you play devil's advocate while not actually being JudeoChristian makes you sound like a fellow agnostic.

True, I'll just give up here, no need to continue, I doubt either of us will change their mind, so yeah. Don't want to take up too much of your time.

That's what I'd say too if I were proven wrong and wanted to escape a conversation.

If you continued reading, you'd see we ended on a fairly decent note. In the end, I feel pretty good about this whole conversation.

I read it all.

You two getting along has zero effect on me.
User avatar #104 - drewhenry (04/03/2014) [-]
I still stand by what I said. A few guy could have just decided to include homosexuality when being told what to write
User avatar #105 - alecbaldwinning (04/03/2014) [-]
"I still stand by what I said."
-That's because you're an idiot.

>"A few guy could have just decided to include homosexuality when being told what to write"
>"A few guy could have just decided to include"
>"A few guy could have just"
>"few guy could have
>"guy could have"
>"could have"
>"could"

-Using hypothetical "coulds" pulled out of your ass and based on nothing to justify being an idiot.
-And that's why you're an idiot.
User avatar #106 - drewhenry (04/03/2014) [-]
It is more likely than not that something like that happened at some points in the creation of the written Bible
User avatar #107 - alecbaldwinning (04/03/2014) [-]
>Pretending to be an authority on what is likely and what is unlikely to have historically happened, on a topic shrouded in unknowns and heresay.

^This is you still being an idiot.

Do tell, where did you receive your masters degree? How many papers have you had published?
User avatar #108 - drewhenry (04/03/2014) [-]
There you go again, using that uneducated term "idiot"

Are you attempting to insult me, or are you just using that word, because it makes you feel more correct?

I am basing my opinions on the fact of human nature, that they tend to be crude, hateful beings and that people have altered even historical truths.

There are sources that say that Abraham Lincoln was for equal rights, but he himself said that he wasn't.

User avatar #109 - alecbaldwinning (04/03/2014) [-]
>Getting off topic
>Implying that I can't be both mean, and correct/educated at the same time.
>Still being a cum gurgling niggerfaggot autistic retarded idiot
User avatar #111 - drewhenry (04/03/2014) [-]
I'm not saying that you are wrong, I am just saying that have equal possibility to be right. Also, that part calling me a cum gurgling niggerfaggot autistic retarded idiot was just unnecessary. I could accept you just calling me an idiot, because I can understand that you may be a little angry that I challenge your own opinions with others that just as likely are true. Your response there lets me know that you are no longer worth responding to from this point forward.
User avatar #148 - alecbaldwinning (04/03/2014) [-]
"there was no winning in that argument" "not because I was "losing."
>You're literally the only person who can't see that you've lost both times. Because you're an idiot.

"There was no need for you to respond to me after the argument had already stopped." "That is why I wanted to stop talking to you"
>Every time you reply, you demonstrate that the argument is in fact,!! not stopped!!. Idiot.

And once again for good measure. Idiot.

#112 - alecbaldwinning (04/03/2014) [-]
"equal possibility to be right" "that just as likely are true"
> This one actually made me lol Implying a topic which can be interpreted freely, automatically, baselessly grants equal 50/50 chance to either possibility.

"that part calling me a cum gurgling niggerfaggot autistic retarded idiot was just unnecessary"
>gif related

"because I can understand that you may be a little angry"
>You couldn't make me angry for all of King Midas's silver. I'm just an unpleasant motherfucker.

"you are no longer worth responding to from this point forward."
> More backing out of a dispute because you're losing. That's how this started in the first place. Your circular logic has, quite literally, brought us full circle.

User avatar #126 - drewhenry (04/03/2014) [-]
Since apparently you couldn't get it through your head, there was no winning in that argument, because you are just being unreasonable. There was no need for you to respond to me after the argument had already stopped.(obviously because you are "just an unpleasant motherfucker.") That is why I wanted to stop talking to you, not because I was "losing." The only even slightly educated response you have contributed was the bit on how it is a topic shrouded in unknowns, which proves neither point. Also, I was never off topic; I brought up an example of people recording what they were told to write but altering details. It is a known fact that people change things to make it fit more into what they personally think; it has happened countless times.

Several translations that are not the original proves nothing at all.
#86 - tacohawk (04/03/2014) [-]
But the original was oral Aramaic. That was translated to Greek and written down not by the apostles, but their students.

So what you're saying is that none of the Bible can be trusted, because none of it is the original, verbatim words of the men it talks about. All of it is a second-hand resource.
