N. Korean citizen (07/12/2011) [-] I'm atheist and I completely agree with this fag (other than the smart-ass comment at the end.) It is idiodic to say "I'll stop shoving my beliefs down your throat when you stop shoving your beliefs down my throat." This would just go in circles and you would never get anywhere.

suttler (07/11/2011) [-] Again, I was brought up in a Catholic school system. I know its teachings, its morals, and its general purpose. However, it is meant to be nothing more than a guideline of moral codes and ethics in order to be a good human being. In order to enforce and embolden the power of the words written, you must invent an all-powerful deity to broadcast this message, and cast aside all those who oppose it. However, somewhere down the line, the moral code of the Bible was lost, and it was turned into a fanatical faith based on an absolute audience of followers. Hence, your difficulty in allowing any non-believers to coexist happily in your midst. If there is any empirical proof or evidence of a greater entity in the universe, please feel free to display it. I'm a logical human being; I see the world as what it is, and until there is absolute proof of the existence of a creator-like entity, I will not support a faith that institutes blind faith as a founding principle. I've read the Bible, twice. AND: I was PUT through 18 YEARS of CATHOLIC SCHOOLS. And with ALLL of those lessons and teachings. I DO NOT believe in God. The Bible is full of contradictions and in the book of Job God KILLS a man's family just to prove a point to satan. WTF?! Also in Isaiah God tells the Jew's to kill a neighboring tribe, to kill all of them. And when the Israelites spare the women and children, God, decides to cast a famine on them. Again WTF?! God isn't all loving if he does exist. But I really doubt it. #149 -
suttler (07/11/2011) [-] Agreed. Man has adopted the Bible's messages to suit their own meanings. Things have been written and rewritten in the book for the benefit of man, and it is because of this that it is often misinterpreted as a tool to manipulate those who cannot seem to think for themselves. I will say this: the Bible today is not the same Bible as it was 1000 years ago; hell, it's not the same as it was 150 years ago. It has evolved into such a frankenstein monster of text that it is nearly impossible to distinguish reality from fantasy, ingenuity from insanity, right from wrong, and good from evil.

N. Korean citizen (07/11/2011) [-] "God does not forbid you respecting those who have not made war against you on account of your religion, and have not driven you forth from your homes, that you show them kindness and deal with them justly; surely God loves the doers of justice. God only forbids you respecting and loving those who made war upon you on account of your religion, and drove you forth from your homes and backed up others in your expulsion, that you make friends with them, and whoever makes friends with them, these are the unjust." -(60:8-9) The Quran clearly states to tolerate 'infidels' who do not persecute you. The part about killing infidels: "fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them" Is actually part of a larger passage on military strategies to defeat a group of hostile polytheistic nomads on the Arabian peninsula who were constantly attacking the Muslim cities. This explains it better: "So when the sacred months have passed away, then fight and slay the pagans wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and keep them under observation, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely God is Forgiving, Merciful." Meaning: so when the grace period (4 months) is past, and if the other party insists on fighting Islam, then a state of war is inevitable. The struggle may take the form of killing, or capture and imprisonment, or just keeping an eye on these enemies to fend off their evil if they decide to launch an offensive against Muslims. The punishment should be fair and just and, thus, must be proportional to the crimes actually committed. Not only this, but the pagans can repent and accept Islam, as evident from the last part of (9:5), or desist from attacking Muslims and ask for protection, as evident from the next verse (9:6), "If one amongst the pagans ask you for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of God; and then escort him to where he can be secure." And then send them to hell, to live out untold pain for eternity...

I might as well start a Harry Potter religion, and 2000 years from now, it could be as legit as Christianity is today. But maybe moreso cuz there are 7 books, and 8 movies about it. :D #105 -

xNoPityx (07/11/2011) [-] Lol Pascals wager. The reason why this doesn't work is because you are Number 1) Assuming Christianity is the only religion out there and Number 2) Asserting that belief in a god has no consequences. To address number 1, You're saying that if you're wrong and the christian god dosen't exist you face no punishment for your actions. Well your forgetting about the hundreds of other beliefs out there. What if your wrong and extremist islam is right and all infidels will face Allah's wrath? You stand to lose just as much as me then. Does that mean you should believe in Islam? No, it doesn't. Now to address Number 2. If atheist are right and you are wrong and this is our only life than that means that each moment is precious. Every moment you waste praying to a god that doesn't exist is a moment that could be spent bettering your, or someone else's life. Tl;Dr That argument is stupid. #1323 -

N. Korean citizen (07/11/2011) [-] What about the whole rapture deal? Im not saying that all Christians believed in this recent rapture but those who did and staked everything to warn people were left with nothing when it didnt happen. Now, what did religion bring to the table there? #133 -
N. Korean citizen (07/11/2011) [-] O.K. retards listen up. He is trying to explain that it is risk free to believe in a Christian God, because if he IS real, you go to heaven. If he ISN'T real you go nowhere. An atheist who doesn't believe in a Christian god (or any god really) does not get that slim chance of heaven. In the end, the only thing that counts is living your life the way you want to, to your fullest. Fuck you all is dumb #1325 -

tacoflavoredcondom (07/11/2011) [-] Yes but I am a proud christain. Is there anything wrong with that? I'm not trying to shove it down your throat and if your going to argue about resonable religons read the bible and go to a bible study or whatever learn about it first Christians think they are going to a "Heaven" Atheists think there is nothing after life and no god, heaven, etc. So why would they believe just for a afterlife? They dont believe in any form of afterlife. Nope. You're forgetting the nearly infinite other possibilities. We both have the same chance of being right, and we both have the same odds of going to heaven, and we both have the same odds of going to hell. I'll go ahead and live my life based on what I see to be true and based on what evidence there is. I'm not going to worship some "Greater power" just because you think I'm going to hell. #55 -
