I think social reasons, and maybe mention that you two could discuss the studies while you're at it. Depends on what you're planning though of course. For something like that I'd go for a cafe, no doubt. But that's up to personal preference and what you think she likes to do. I'm sure she'd like help with the studies though, especially if she's having troubles.

I guess I could throw both out as options, say we should hangout before break, maybe for a study break at the snack shop (she apparently really likes milkshakes and hates coffee) or I could help her study

This is a bit time sensitive so not sure if you can help in time. Haven't gotten a chance to ask for today, considering going down to her room around lunch and asking her to go to lunch together

Ye I think that sounds like a good idea, as long as you keep it as casual as you can when asking.

How does 'Hey, since neither of us have finals today, wanna go grab lunch and hangout to take a break from finals?" sound?

Yep, couldn't be much better. Just don't overthink that phrase, or you might just end up tumbling the words so it turns out horribly.

Yeah hahaha, although that might get a chuckle and show how nervous I am to her, which with shy girls would probably help out unless I'm wrong.

Well, plan didn't work to go to lunch but it ended up that she isn't really interested in hanging out and that pretty much means not interested in me. Oh well, plan to remain friends and maybe things could change next semester. Now I can focus on my school work a little better.

Well what did she say? Don't give up that easily, she most likely doesn't know you well enough to start being interested, make her know you and she might fall.

I'm only giving up till next semester (this is finals week so yeah). Her roommate who has been my wingman in this just asked the girl about me wanting to hangout today and take a break from studying and her response "I'm not really interested in hanging out. I'm sorry."

I plan to continue being friends with her and continue getting close to her and become better friends. But with a lab, project and 2 exams for the next 2 days, I need to drop that off my plate since there isn't much more to be done in this short time.

I'm sure an opportunity will come up since it seems like you have been able to meet her quite a lot. But yeah, better keep an eye out for an opportunity, you probably don't want to hunt for it, could cause for some inappropriate times to ask.

I'm sure I will see her tomorrow night at the DnD session my friend does every week, but that doesn't mean I will get a chance to talk to her somewhat privately... I will definitely look though. You had a good point of it being flattering to her, so maybe that will help. Do you think I should go for the hangout for social reasons or go with meet up so I can help her study? (she was having issue with the class and is changing majors because of the issues with the content so the help could be used I guess)

I'd say go ask her, you'll kick yourself later if you don't, if you do, the worst thing that can happen is that she says no, and that won't do anything other than make you feel embarrassed for half a day, she won't think less of you, if anything she would probably be flattered that you want to spend time with her, shy people tend to not have an abundance of people to hang out with.
User avatar
#204018 - syrenthra (12/04/2015) [-]
Oh believe me, I know that first hand, I'm kinda shy/closed myself, which is why I'm the way I am right now with her. I have talked to her enough that she would recognize we have a fair bit in common that could be talked about between hunting and I think I caught that she plays video games too, to other things that have come up...

The next problem is finding an opportunity to even ask. I had a shot today when we ended up walking together, but I was questioning if it was too soon or not.

I have hopes that Orphans will do even better. It has a lot of plot to catch up on, but if we can avoid 00 missteps like bringing a dead character back or magical children songs, Orphans might rank higher on my list. It needs to deliver on emotional cast like 00 did, though. 00 hit it out of the park with Maria and Louise storylines. And Saachez. If we get a villain that is even half the glorious bastard that Saachez was, I'm gonna be ecstatic.

Gundam is more a franchise name than a one-after-another series, though there are some shared timelines/universes between titles. Every title in the franchise involves giant robots and war; and the good, the bad, and the morally gray involved in it. Typically in the 'real robot' genre and not the 'super robot' genre, and conflict is restricted to between humans (despite often in space, no aliens). Social commentary on current events at the time of production is a possibility.

The original, UC, timeline is the most developed, but is often seen as convoluted and perhaps dated to newcomers. If you don't mind the older art/animation, start with Mobile Suit Gundam, otherwise fans generally agree that Gundam Seed is something of a reboot of the original. In both, a civilian is drawn into the war as the only Gundam-piloting hope of an Earth-allied spaceship, fleeing from space-allied forces. Seed brings commentary on human genetic engineering and it's morals. Mobile Suit Gundam has some of the more favored sequels and side stories, including 8th MS Team. Both have dubs.

Gundam Wing is held dear by 90's enthusiasts- it was the first title to reach the U.S. networks, but it's dense narration, poor dub, and mediocre animation leave alot to be desired by modern standards. Gundam 00 parallels Wing in a similar way Seed parallels the UC timeline. In both Wing and 00, a small band of pilots engage in terrorism, with overwhelmingly powerful mechs, in the hope that removing the loudest voices for violence can bring peace. The hypocrisy is not lost on them, and is a topic of much debate in-show. Gundam 00 has distinct flavoring of a post 9/11 social climate, and the villains are much more developed than Wing's. Both have dubs.

G Fighter is divisive for the gundam fanbase. It's like dragonball Z or pro wrestling... with giant robots. Some like the over-the-top melodrama, and some can't stand the departure from grittier and military-based stories. DBZ fans and Gurren Lagann fans can find something to like. Otherwise, skip it. It has a dub.

Recent titles haven't done very well, critically. Gundam AGE had artwork reminiscent of YuGiOh or Digimon that was tough for longtime fans to swallow, but the story was considered okay-ish. The recent Reconguista in G was considered a mess in story and characters, by nearly everyone. The Build Fighters and it's sequel came across as little more than half-hour commercials for the gundam model kits. No dubs for these titles.

Other mentions like Turn A or After War X are well liked by inside fans, but their age and lack of western presence/notoriety make them less worthy of the 'starting point' you asked for. No dubs on these two.

Lastly, if you don't mind the subs, the now-airing Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans is promising to be a much needed cause for celebration and redemption in quality for the franchise.

Anime of season, if not for the bald (and beautifully animated) shadow of One Punch. I mean, Orphans has:

-great designs on characters and mechs.
-Tropes like the angsty pilot and naive politician are lampshaded then stripped away.
-Shifting alliances in a (so far) shadowy and dynamic political backdrop.
-awesome battle choreography, on ground and space

goddamn, Gundam hasn't looked this good in a long time. It's good to hear I'm not the only one appreciating it, man

Each series has a different story, ranging from war between 2+ nations or groups to child soldiers trying to end all wars
