The mathematical constant i, defined as the square root of negative 1, squared, would simple negate the square root. To an odd power, however, and we're back to i. Considering a googol is an even number (10^100), we would end up with -1.

nope, subtard is right. the mathematical i raised to a power will come out to +1 every other even number; that is, when the exponent is divisible by both 2 and 4.
i^1= +i
i^2= -1
i^3= -i
i^4= +1
i^5= +i and the pattern repeats.
