The bitter side of Hollywood. "I played one of the most iconic characters in all of television history, but when the show died, my career never recovered." If I had tears, i'd be crying now.

There was some sort of documentary or something on it. Both he and Ashton Kutcher had the opportunity to get their careers off the ground, but Topher Grace made a bad career move that prevented it from doing so. But, you're right, he has been type casted as a scrawny Eric Foreman type of person, and as result, the characters he plays have little to no depth.

well even if he never gets his other big break he can still say he was the main character in one of the most popular comedy shows ever. I mean re runs are still being played daily on like 3 different major networks

That's the thing! He's actually a really good actor, but the movies he stars in are poorly written and directed even worse. If he could find one good role in a decent and successful movie, I'm sure his career would skyrocket

I agree! ... I wonder if it's because he's so well known as Eric that it's hard for him to get a clean shot at a role because people just expect him to be the funny kinda dorky kid and producers think it'd be too difficult for people to see him as anything else so they don't want to chance it

While I will agree that most movies have similar characters, they usually put their own unique spin on them, and I guess I was just disappointed, because the two films are completely different in style and execution and The Grey showed such promise, but the characters were literally the exact same as the crappy ones from Predators. Thinking back on it now, I'm fairly certain that if I hadn't seen Predators, I would've loved The Grey. Damn you, Topher Grace!

I don't watch a lot of survival horror either, but I saw the movie "Predators" (terrible movie) recently before I saw The Grey, and I noticed too many similarities among the characters. First, you have the main character, who serves as the leader/badass of the group, just because he is the main character.
Then, you have the foul mouthed, and possibly insane dickbag of the group who has no regard for anyone else's lives and only cares about sex. Later on in the film this character always has a change of heart and will redeem himself. Always.
Then the medic who is timid and physically useless but still likable.
And finally, the leader's right hand man, who is stronger than the doctor and even more likable.
I'm a huge Liam Neeson fan as well, but his performance was lacking. Every curse word out of his mouth was forced and unnatural, and I wasn't convinced that he was the character that he wanted me to think he was. Overall, the movie wasn't terrible and I loved the ending, but, if you ever are unlucky enough to have to sit through Predators, you might not find The Grey as enjoyable the next time you watch it.
User avatar #192 - sweetnothings (06/20/2012) [-]
can't agree with you about Liam's performance; I thought he did rather well but again let's enjoy a difference of opinion. I get what you're saying about similar character roles but honestly you can find similar character roles in about every movie/ tv show. Some of the time it bugs me and other times it doesn't apparently the generic character plot between Predators and The Grey bothered you. Haven't seen predators so I can't really comment on it. Ha and thanks but I think I'll just avoid that movie all together if it's that terrible. thanks for the heads up though

Ah. Well, I was just wondering because there's apart in the song that goes "You've been whispering sweet nothings" and I'd never heard that anywhere else, so I thought that's where you got your name.

They're one of my favorite bands ever
User avatar #368 - sweetnothings (06/20/2012) [-]
they kind of gave me some nostalgia feels from back when I use to love simple plan, green day, blink 182, etc. sorry if I'm completely off base with the comparisons but the song made me smile and get some feels

They are sort of a pop-punkish band, but not in the same way as those bands. They're not poppy, but... Idk. It's hard to explain
User avatar #435 - sweetnothings (06/20/2012) [-]
well I've only listened to the one song and just kinda reminded me of those others but I'll check out more of their stuff.

people can do what they want, they don't need some self-righteous people telling them what to do.

I'm not telling anyone what to do with it. I'm just saying that I think the reason it's become such a controversial saying (especially on this site) is because it's sort of become synonymous with people using it as an excuse to party all the time and I was just trying to point out that those situations don't completely reflect the meaning of the saying that's just how some people choose to interpret it.

Originally, there was only one, it was later split up into 3 books so that it would be less frightening for those who read less.
