my apologies about that whole mess down there...the guy is beat in the head
#98 - superxspartan (09/02/2012) [-]
yeh I just read all that, don't mind him. He seems like his daddy hugged him the wrong way when he was young or something
User avatar #101 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
anything else you would like to know? im very educated in the military life even if i am not there yet...4 years JROTC 1 year ROTC plus most of my family and friends are active duty...like i said though im expecting a child and dont want to join until after the kids a little older so that i have an impact on the baby before im stripped away from him/her
#104 - superxspartan (09/02/2012) [-]
What's JROTC and ROTC? I have an idea but I haven't heard the acronyms before.
Also, what's basic training like? I just ask cause I'm currently trying getting fit in preparation for it and it's the part that I'm oddly most dreading. And I guess my last question is what happens after basic training? Are you for sure getting shipped out? Do they pick roles for you to do? Is there anything extra on my part I need to know or do they all pick it out for you?

Sorry for the amount of questions btw
User avatar #105 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
ill answer best i can buddy, JROTC is Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp. ROTC is Reserve Officer Training Corps. its also the main training instrument used by the military to get officer commissions.
basic training is a few weeks of physical conditioning followed by basic training in arms use and different exercises you would use in combat situations. following basic training you will go to tech school. where you will specialize in your chosen field...if you have talked to a recruiter yet he will tell you exact jobs you would be fit for depending on your ASVAB scores, you can also check online on the branches specific website for career fields...dont dread it...they are going to scream at you in basic... the main things to work on for basic (and this covers all branches) try to have about an 8 minute mile time that you could hold for at least 1.5 miles and up to 3 miles, also you want to be able to do at least 50 pushups a inute and 50 situps a minute...if you can do that you will be good in those areas...you also want to make sure you can do at least 10 pullups/chin ups without needing to stop if you can do that you will be able to do whatever they want you to do in basic...also keep your head down and do what they tell you and you will be good to go...they are going to find something wrong with everything you do...so be ready for that...for the most part the balls in your court until you swear in...any other questions feel free to ask
#106 - superxspartan (09/02/2012) [-]
No I think that's about it, I have some work to do on the physical side, but that pretty much answers all my questions. Thanks for the help and all the luck with your new child
User avatar #107 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
thanks man, good luck with everything
#64 - anon (09/02/2012) [-]
You should be really fit, but you need to KNOW that you are LEGALLY obligated to refuse immoral and illegal commands, and to detain your commanding officer and assume command if he persists in that command.
User avatar #96 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
good...an anon with sense...but what was referenced to below is the combat with potential threats such as children with bombs strapped to them...women with hidden weapons...ect..
User avatar #55 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
well man...to be honest...and this isnt being a dick its just something you will have to do if the need arises...you have to be willing to shoot someone dead...with little more reason than your commanding officer saying that they need to be dead...that person could be an armed terrorist...an unarmed civilian...a woman...or even a child...war is brutal and you need the right mindset to do what you need to do...i was going in but im delaying it for at least a little while so that i can raise my baby a little before i have issues seeing the baby...just keep that in mind when you are joining alright man?
#95 - superxspartan (09/02/2012) [-]
I'm definitely not underestimating anything about the whole combat process. So thanks for the advice and good luck if you're going in
#66 - watanigga (09/02/2012) [-]
Fuck that pc bullshit. If someone has a gun, and I'm on watch, if he is a threat, I will destroy that threat, no questions asked. People like YOU are why we get such a goddamn liberal reputation.
User avatar #71 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
what the fuck? i am going into the military as well you fuckhead...i am not giving a fucking liberal reputation idiot!...a threat is a threat whether its a child or a full grown man!...our adversaries are cruel and they will use children and women to do their dirty work of they know it will get the job done... its bullshit on your attack of what i said...if your commanding officer tells you to take someone down its your job as the enlisted to do what the fuck he/she says...and ask questions later...fucking idiot...dont shoot yourself in your confusion...
#75 - watanigga (09/02/2012) [-]
Never ask questions. Do it, do it now. I'm itching for the chance for someone to attack our ship. Every day I'm on watch, I hope someone crosses that line. It's not the CO that makes the decision, it's you, the watchstander. If a little kid has a gun, and shoots at me, I'll put two in him in a heartbeat, and not think twice. The military used to be full of people that were itching for the chance to shoot, now it's people like you, "oh... you MIGHT have to shoot someone... you should really think about that..." that's liberal talk. If someone is going to attack you, you should WANT to shoot someone.
User avatar #83 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
also you are put on watch by your officer...therefore if you kill someone while on watch its because your CO told you too
#86 - watanigga (09/02/2012) [-]
The military tells me to. My CO isn't going to say anything they haven't already said/done.
User avatar #88 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
the military is your CO dunderhead...
#99 - watanigga (09/02/2012) [-]
See there you go, with your fucking not-knowing-of-anything. The military is not your CO, the CO is the person in charge of a command, your command being a ship, a unit, or a squadron. Gtfo wannabe.
User avatar #100 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
your CO is an officer...who has an officer...who has an officer...the chain of command is your CO and the chain of command is the military... so fuck off already...ive already proven you to be unable to comprehend what i say, so why keep trying? move on with your life man...
#102 - watanigga (09/02/2012) [-]
You've got to be either 15, retarded, or just plain dumb.

This is a chain of command: CO (ltcdr) > ops > 1st leut. > Weaps > 1st class petty officer > 2nd class petty officer > third class petty officer > seaman.

The CO is a person, whether it be a Captain on a big deck, or a lieutenant on a PC. It's not the "military" in general.
User avatar #103 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
every officer is your superior...there is a single officer in charge of your pathetic ass...but he has to tel his commanding officer whats up and ect...therefore you are following a chain of command...the military is all parts together...you are part of the enlisted segment...but you are not understanding that the military is a living entity and is your commanding officer because your CO is in the military...and anyone who is above your commanding officer can order you around...even if he/she just got there...same thing if they are a different branch...as long as it doesnt interfere with your work order its allowable...i grow tired of this pathetic attempt to try and prove me incorrect...its a lot of hard work for you...i know...but just concede...defeat isnt always so bad just learn from it...
User avatar #82 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
you are wanting to shoot someone because thats the mindset you need to be in the military...and yet you misinterpret what is an explanation about what could happen to a new person without trying to scare him off...i was explaining what could happen between what is true and not...everyone knows recruiters will lie to you...and i say that because someone should know that...they have to be willing to kill someone without a second thought...if you go into the military thinking gumdrops and bubblegum...you are going to realize that the military might not be what you wanted to do...because that slight pause...that half a second delay...could mean the difference between you or friends dying...i personally am more than willing to kill another in defense of the country...doesnt mean that i want to go on a rampage killing people if i can help it...ill do what i need to do as an american soldier and thats all they can ask of me...
#58 - xelihope (09/02/2012) [-]
I want to append on this...we have a feeling of 'duty' and levels of importance in our military, and you have to take orders from your commanding officer...

But NEVER lose yourself so much that you take orders from a corrupt officer telling you to torture and kill innocent bystanders. Unless the child is armed with explosives, there's no reason to kill him.
User avatar #73 - rangerofthesea (09/02/2012) [-]
officers dont tell you to kill someone who isnt a threat...what i told this man is exactly what i learned in ROTC along with all the people have met along the way. your comment i appreciate much better than that stupid twat who called what i said liberal...i missed some points, yes, but all thats needed is for it to be pointed out like you did
#85 - watanigga (09/02/2012) [-]

If I'm not mistaken Paz survived the fall into the ocean, and well Chico has yet to be explained. But yeh the game looks awesome. I'm glad they're finally expanding on the whole Big Boss and Zero story arch, for something that was so important in MGS4 it was kinda only referenced at the end of peace walker

Well depending on the developer any game is really open to modding on the PC, even AC. But yea on the whole something such as AC just has the graphics boost.

Well take Skyrim for example, just the graphic boost alone has changed the entire experience for me. It really feels like a new game as compared to my Playstation version. And when in comes to multiplayer there is a much more mature audience to play with, which has proved to be quite nice and sparked new life in my gaming career.
#314 - superxspartan (08/26/2012) [-]
Definitely when it comes to games like minecraft, gta or skyrim, there's infinite things you could mod into it, but think about the other side. Take a game like Assassins creed, is someone who plays that on PC really having that much of a life changing than someone who plays on consololol? Or is the PC player more hardcore or faithful fan because he plays on PC? That's more the point I was originally leaning towards
