The thing is, Greece hasn't been democratic for a long time, it's been under economic tyranny disguised as democracy. Even if we had voted for someone else, he would either have followed the same path or have been threatened away from office (as has happened before) and been replaced with someone who would.

I'm glad to see you're viewing this fairly and rationally, though. Far too many people decide to ditch thinking and just repeat the BUT UR LAZY LOLOL story they've been fed by the media. (Which is false, for various reasons.)

My country has been through very similar issues post WWll so I try and look at both sides. Greece has her own personal circumstances which from what you're telling me hasn't been Ideal and it's unreasonable to accept the Eu to just forgo all the money they have invested so unless we see a proper compromise on both sides Greece will take a huge hit and the EU won't see a penny of their money. It doesn't look good for either side the way I see it.

How were we supposed to know that he was planning to do all that? His party was voted out of office after everything he did, and now it's one of the bottom-feeder underdogs in elections, after decades of being at the top. But it was too late.

Besides, he was the son of a very popular former prime minister, and many people had high hopes for him.

I am not as well versed in the internal politics of Greece so I can neither make statement of defense nor rebuttal for your pm. All I know is that the people of Greece made a decision with the options they had and it didn't work for them. The lucky thing is that since Greece is a democracy it can accept responsibility for it's previous Gov and try again. And with the 2015 elections Greece has the opportunity select a better government that is more invested in the interests of it's people and not it's neighbors. One that is willing to work with the rest of the Eu to get Greece out of this mess with some degree of safety. But I will reiterate I think the EU needs to approach this issue differently because they are making this issue worse themselves and unless both Greece and it's debtors need to work together to get out of this mess. Finally, I'll say that after talking with you I have decided that at least in terms of media Greece's opinion hasn't been equally shown and I will try better to get their side as well but I will not accept Greece as a pure victim.

What you're not taking into account is that our government did all that, not us, and said government has been working for foreign interests for a long time. The prime minister who forced us into the Euro (which most of us didn't want), for instance, was raised and educated in the US, and had trouble speaking Greek when he took office. What does that tell you?

We never asked for this, and now the entire world is bombarding us with misinformed insults for something we were forced to do under foreign influence.

To be honest I think Russia's fizzled out, at best/worst depending on how you see it they'll take eastern Ukraine along with Kiev and call it a day. It's not worth it for them to go further as the sanctions are absolutely choking them and considering that UAE decided to produce and sell more oil instead of holding out like other opec nations this flooded the market with cheap oil (which on a separate note was to kill competition with new oil competitors but I digress). This is a problem considering that one of Russia's main exports is natural gas and if the Eu has cheep access to oil and with the sanctions on Russian goods/gas it has made even more intolerable to continue their aggressive actions. So in my opinion I think we'll be seeing a lot less action from Russia. But I suppose only time will tell. (Just curious is their a politicsexplain or foreignpoliticsexplain ?)

Yeah, it really depends on what greece is going to do after elections but there is hope for Greece, the other hard hitter eu countries like Germany have invested to much into Greece to just let it fail without any returns. And even if the were to default their currency the drachma would be so depreciated that it would be worthless leading for the people to continue to use the EU so it won't be a complete exit for Greece from the euro zone. And as much as I would like to entirely blame Greece for their current crisis the other Eu govs that have continuously lent them money for the past five years should have realized it was a bad investment. Very much like the US housing crisis where banks were giving out outstanding loans to people who had no way of paying it back. The eu screwed themselves as much as greece was screwing them. It's like giving life support to a terminally ill patient and hoping he'll get better or black fb posts for fj.

#82 - jamestitkov (02/28/2015) [-]
It's not narcissism. We can trust literally nobody else in the world, since everyone has completely bought the story the media are feeding them, and don't realize that we're the victims of this situation.

I mean, imagine having to suffer heavier and more illogical taxation every day, in a crippled and immobile economical environment, and having the entire world believe you're actually a lazy deadbeat who deserves what's coming to him. People know next to nothing about the situation, and take the slightest opportunity to insult us for being under economic tyranny.
User avatar #90 - supername (02/28/2015) [-]
Which is why in my comment 74 I said it was also partially the EU's fault as well. However, if you expect me to believe that Greece is perfect and have been the victems the entire time, then I'll think that Greece is acting like a child and not accepting responsibility. They were adult enough to accept and ask for more and more loans when they needed it without thinking about the consequences of being unable to pay it back and they have simply made bad choices rejecting austerity measures put forth by the Eu. However, I think you raise a really good point the eu increasing interest on a nation already buckling under payments is extremely counterproductive if either party wants to get out of this mess.

Yeah I was just trying a sample test to see how I would fair.
here are some questions for you
1. A man digs a 6ft deep 3ft wide and 4ft long hole how much dirt is in the hole?
2. what grows and grows but is not living?
3. A man looks at three houses one house is red the other is blue and the last one is green. The red house is made with red bricks the blue house is made with blue bricks what color bricks is the green house made of?
4. there are four houses on a street a red one a blue one a green one and and a white one. The red man lives in the red one, a blue man lives in the blue one, a green man lives in the green one, who lives in the white house
5 There's a man on a boat with a pack of cigarettes but no lighter how does he light the cigarette?
User avatar #69 to #68 - tranquilizer (08/12/2014) [-]
1. A little if he accidentally sat on the edge and it collapsed
2. My pile stuff hit by procrastination
3. It's a tough one. I'm going to go with...... green.
4. A black man mad with power
5. He throws one out the boat, and the whole boat becomes a cigarette lighter.
Then he accidentally clicks it on, everything catches fire and the boat sinks with the man. The cigarettes get stuck in the bottom. Millions of years later someone drills oil on that site and the cigarette ends up in E.T's ultrasound car's fuel chamber, and is finally lit.
