My first deck was Kaalia and my love for Avacyn meant that my playgroup evolved into a group that worships cards like Final Judgment, Cyclonic Rift, Devestation Tide, Evacuate, anything to get around resilient creature based strategies. I've also got a friend that loves Bane of Progress and that thing has become the bane of my existence whenever I play Selvala or Nahiri.

Ah Drana don't care about a little bouncing, just cast her again with mono-blacks ludicrous mana and it's right on back to the blood buffet!
#198 - lolollo (03/19/2015) [-]
Oh, no, not that, i'm talking all of the references you were making to "rift" and "Judgment". You almost exclusively play aetherspounts with your opponents done creaming his pants over "ALL OF THIS LETHAL DAMAGE I'M DEALING TO YOU!"

One f my buddies had a sliver deck I did that to.
"I swing withall of my slivers for 67 combat damage!"
*everyone proceeds to freak out over how much "that sucks*"
"Wait..."
*I drop aetherspounts*

Ah yeah, aetherspouts is cool for that - but you wanna know what spell really screws over creature swarm strategies? This gem right here. The look on a Krenko players face when you drop this is hysterical.
#242 - lolollo (03/19/2015) [-]
I've been on the recieing hand of tat card a few times. Luckily, riku isnt a "swing wide with little dudes" deck, but a "there's a healthy amount of slightly big dudes" deck.
User avatar #250 - steelplatypus (03/19/2015) [-]
How do you like Riku by the way? I'm not really planning to make another deck atm since I already have 7 and one of them is due to be fixed up, but he's always been a commander that I've wanted to try, seems like more fun to play than Animar.
User avatar #463 - unicornslayer (03/28/2015) [-]
I like Riku cus he's very value-based. All my other EDH decks were based around combos or synergy, but with Riku I just kinda threw every good red blue or green card I had into the deck (with some balance) and it pretty much creams face. Just avoid enchantments and artifacts since you can't copy them.
#276 - lolollo (03/19/2015) [-]
AKA "That's a nice draonlair spider. You mind if I get one every turn?"
User avatar #271 - lolollo (03/19/2015) [-]
You know the guy who had to take an extra turn just to give the 8 dragon tokens he got for free haste? That was me. Riku never plays the same way twice, making it less reliale than my momir vig deck was, but infinitely more fun. That and simic has all of the fun "I get to play your deck as well..." cards.
#190 - ganondork (03/19/2015) [-]
This is why Strip Mine is legal in EDH. This fucker right there.

Pic related. It's mfw someone plays cabal coffers.
#108 - ganondork (03/19/2015) [-]
Hmm probably combined with Cabal Coffers and Crypt Ghast/Nirkana Revenant then? I know what I'd save my Strip Mine for ;)

I have a Daretti deck since recently, and Bane of Progress really shits in my soup if I don't get out my Darksteel Forge in time.
#91 - ganondork (03/19/2015) [-]
Classic Teysa "titty window" Orzhov Scion is a nightmare to play against. 3 CMC commander in BW? The response window is also very narrow, making it difficult to establish any board position at all. Even killing Teysa usually doesn't solve much, since she's so cheap to cast.

Sigarda can be hard to deal with. I'm fond of black generals with sac effects, and unfortunately Sigarda is pretty fucking resilient against it. Merciless Eviction/Final Judgment still works, but that's about it.
User avatar #93 - suddenlyhats (03/19/2015) [-]
Don't even get me started on classic Teysa bro. My friend who got me into magic way back in the day has had an EDH for about as long as she's been out, and it's pretty goddamn terrifying.
Unless you're playing an animar, a good Teysa deck can overpower you but goddamn it's a hell of an advantage.

In my opinion, if you go Dragon in EDH, you go fucking all out. All the dragons you want. Pic very much related.

I've thought about it many times, but the haste is just too good. I feel a scion deck would work differently
#161 - ganondork (03/19/2015) [-]
Well yeah off course. Not really familiar with Scion or Karrthus, but having access to every dragon ever printed seems pretty nuts to me. Combine that with reanimator strategy to get those fools onto the battlefield and you've got a gameplan. Or not, haha.
#163 - schmuxy (03/19/2015) [-]

#168 - ganondork (03/19/2015) [-]

Oh they tried, but no matter how many dragons they had they couldn't quite stand up to the mass exile machine-gun (classic Teysa), the turn four Rakdos (also classic, because fuck the new one) or big momma tank Sigarda 100/100, double-strike, lifelink, trample, indestructable, hexproof, unblockable, shroud, first strike, regenerate, and a couple totem armors on there just in case.
