so how does a set contain itself? To be a part of a set it must be within but to be the set of all sets it must be an individual set containing everything. Once it confines itself to being part of a set it is then part of the collective and not the overall set. It would infinitely loop the set of all sets becoming just another set of the overall set. Thus the paradox.

A set that contains itself... explain how a set can contain itself?

It would form an infinite loop, a set that contains itself which contains itself which contains itself, etc...

Whereas in the case of a set that contains all sets that do not contain themselves, it can just plain not contain itself, there's no paradox there.

I'll try and approach this again tomorrow when my brain be less tired, hope that all makes coherent sense.

Errr no, a set of all sets that contain itself would contain itself, the infinite recursion doesn't stop it containing itself. Like "everything" contains "everything" so yes it does contain itself.

A set of all sets that don't contain themselves has a paradox. If it contains itself, then it shouldn't contain itself, and if it doesn't then it should by definition. Herein lies the paradox
