-mirror may catch light, possibly exposing his position, possibly blinding him.
-mirror may be covered in sunlight, and if it doesn't blind the user, it at least results in poor visibility for target.
-smaller, less detailed view is obtainable via the scope, limiting its maximum range considerably.
The posted device probably has some variable zoom levels, along with a customization-capable reticle, and full-eye view. I'd prefer the one in the .gif, not just because it's cooler.

If it uses mirrors it has 1 problem which is as simple as the idea itself. Light. If the light catches the mirror through the scope or from above it will be impossible to see through. And on a mirror that small and I'm assuming it has a curvature it will focus in. If it's a small digital screen the light that hits it will just cause the white balance to shift and then the screen will be useless.

Also, aligning to see into the scope mirrors might put you in a compromising position where you are exposed. Also, when the weapon is tilted like in the picture there, it might have an effect on accuracy considering the bullet's curve When shooting with a HK 416, for example, the bullet actually rises for the first 13,5 metres, before dropping, and reaching the exact spot where the red dot is at 47,5 metres if I remember correctly.
