Paracord is a bit too minimalistic for my tastes.

What kind of lever-action shotgun do you have? Is it 12-guage? Reasonably-priced?

Warrior. 400 regular comes in 3 barrel lengths. Plus you can buy individual barrels and mag extensions. 12 gauge 3 inch chamber. Mine had a pretty stiff lever at first but after i cleaned and lubed and broke it in she runs like a dream.Corwin arms sells them along many great products. Unfortunately if your outside of Canada i don't think you can get em.

That's strange, I though belt-slings would be common, since not all rifles use sling loops.

Guess I'll have to make one myself.

Most people that desire slings will put sling mounts on. I personally love slings on my lever guns but don't want to fuck around with the mounts. So yeah if you can make your own. I made one with paracord and a paracord lever wrap for my lever shotgun.

Well, a charging bear has to be facing you, so the bullet will have to go through either hemisphere of his brain on the way to either of his lungs.

That said, I've written off the BLR completely, they're not as varied as I thought they were. Takedown only comes with a straight grip, in that ugly stainless finish. Counterproductive.

Looks like I'm back to looking around. I'll keep what you said in mind.

Anything will work if you go for the lungs, to my understanding anyways. It'll probably be .223 or .308. The magazines will obviously be an issue with a gun like this. A lever-action has to feed reliably.

I wonder if .30-30 is still popular in the Northwestern US. It has to be a lever-action, for faster follow-up shots. Real shame that Enfield-type rifles never caught on here. The bolt is so much more hunter-friendly, since it doesn't travel very far...

i love my 30 30, you get your reloads right and i would be comfortable with it for bear and moose, i have always loved levers more then bolts. but you will have more problems blr because of the mags, never had a problem with my savage 99 or my other lever guns. and yes a lung shot will kill anything with any caliber but if you shoot a charging bear in the lung, well the bleed out time is longer then when the time it takes the bear to close the gap on you. on any note if you want a bolt .223 then there are plenty to choose from. i prefer my levers and my 30 cals but what ever you are comfortable with is what you should use.

I don't know, the action SEEMs fairly robust. Just a bolt being move back and forth by a gear.

trust me the action is fine, its the mags that will screw you, even just a bit of dirt in them and your fucked, i lost 2 deer cause the mags didn't feed. but if your dead set on the blr for your bush gun for up north, i would strongly recommend a 308, 300 short mag or 358 Winchester for your caliber. i mean .223 will kill anything, just like .22 but id rather have a little extra umff backing me up. trust me, i am a Canadian I've, tangled with big bears and moose, most times they run, in fact 98 percent they run. but if they don't... well there is a difference in killing something, and STOPPING something.

I'll keep that in mind. I've been considering a takedown model of the BLR in .223. Backpacking rifle for the Far North.

If far north is your fancy id say shotgun is your best bet. Tons of short shottys and take down. Minimum 308. But that's just me. I know moose and grizzly are no joke. The Blr is a fine hunting rifle. But i wouldn't take it as a bush gun.
