Wood for tools (leather is frequently used in tool grips), iron for protective garments, and treated cloth can be used for everything else that I can think of. It would not be ideal, obviously- far from it, we use leather for a reason- but it COULD be substituted.

i try to minimise harm where possible.

Because the corpse is already there from other uses, and it would be disrespectful to the being it once belonged to to simply let it ROT rather than make use of it for sustenance. But, respectfully, Veganism is not just about not eating meat. That would be Vegetarianism. Veganism is not eating meat, AND not consuming anything that is the product of animal suffering (to the best of my knowledge, anyway).

So let's take consuming meat out of the equation, then. How do you propose we fix the other problems I listed? Because any time you consume ANY medication, even those not made from animals, you are consuming the product of animal suffering since each medication must go through animal testing first.

Any time you are within ANY building that is not pure wood, made with pure wood tools, you are enjoying the benefits of animal suffering, as per the parts of animals used in building materials and tools.

Any time you use or consume ANYTHING that was not created/grown and then walked to you, you are using or consuming the products of animal suffering, as per the animal parts used in every form of transportation (except MAYBE bicycle, and even that depends on what exactly the tires are made of). In the same vein, any time you go somewhere without walking, you are traveling using animal byproducts.

So, with consuming meat out of the equation, how do you propose veganism be practiced here? CAN it be practiced? If not, where is the cutoff for Veganism? At what point are you trying hard enough, despite failure, to avoid using animal byproducts that you can be considered guilt-free?

I'm not trying to give you hell here, but as the advocate, you must be prepared to field the issues present with your proposal.

As useful as leather is, nearly everything (everything I can think of, at least, correct me if I'm wrong) that we use leather for could be (with some difficulty) replaced with either wood, iron, or cloth. It would not have been a good addition to my argument.

...yes it is. And if shit looks weird from their end (viewing the DSLAM profile, if that means anything to you), then they put you on hold and fix it.

So, in summary: If the problem is that your computer can't get to google to find the solution to the problem, then go to cmd.exe, try to ping a url and a DNS server. If you're sending and receiving, reset your browser. If not, check the cords. If this doesn't fix, call your ISP.

Bing bang boom, question answered. Have a nice night.

Do you know how many separate steps there are between "off" and "connected to the internet" that your computer can fuck up at? It only being the internet browser is easy as hell to fix...
User avatar #69 - subejio (10/12/2014) [-]
Oh my yes I do, I worked for CenturyLink IT for entirely too long. Shit can go wrong with your computer's networking, or the NIC, or the cables, but 9 times out of 10, if you can't ping url's or DNS then something is wrong on the ISP's end. If by chance it is that 10th time, most decent IT are going to be able to figure out where your problem really is, and if not fix it, give you an idea of how to proceed.

Unless you piss them off, of course. Then they will demonstrate as clearly as possible that it's not their fault, and leave you to deal with it yourself. I can attest, having done this a few times to customers who were acting like jackasses.

It's staged, anyone could see that. All it's there for is to make it look good to the crowd of people watching.

To some random people taken off the street it looks much more entertaining than historic stuff. It works, historical armor fighting would look pretty boring to many people because it's over really quickly and is almost always full of grappling

Wouldn't things like E3 and Gamespot/IGN have vastly more influence than stupid shit like Kotaku and whatnot? I haven't once gone to Kotaku for information on a game. Whenever I search for reviews/information it's always either popular youtubers, Gamespot/IGN, or just the game's dedicated webpage itself that comes up. I still don't understand how pissy little sites like the ones being argued about can have any sort of recognisable impact.
#79 - fresighto (09/27/2014) [-]
Actually yea. The monolithic sites have been pretty neutral. One writer from game informer actually left the email group in protest. Good on him.
#54 - subejio (09/26/2014) [-]
I applaud you for your choice in gaming news, but to believe that Kotaku, RockPaperShotgun, or Gamasutra have no real influence is incredibly naive. These (among the other big names in journalism at the moment) are the names that many, if not most, think of when they want to read up on gaming news. As such, they hold much power in the industry.

Even those aware of the possibility for skewed facts and want to compare sources will generally compare between multiple known sites, and the big names have a great deal of awareness. Comparing stories is a good habit to be in, of course, but it's useless when the big namers are ALL SAYING THE SAME THING, because they've all been bought (again, monetarily, through favors, through connections, or through bias).

Worse, when the small guys DO break the mold and give a different viewpoint, they have to get over the initial rejection by readers who are less inclined to believe the small guy because they're perceived as less reliable. That is why such a stance is being taken against corruption in games journalism.

I agree that Gamespot/IGN have a great deal of influence on their own, but E3 is a press-only event. The public is not allowed to attend, and can only get their E3 news second-hand, filtered through whatever site they visit. The journalists writing about the games will already be biased toward them, having just gone through a multi-day expo of booth babes, free handouts, and empty promises. It is extremely rare that a NEGATIVE review comes out of E3, and all of this falls back to my points above.
