In the Navy, I get paid to study my job (AECF) for that same reason. It is quite simple

I'm contracted for AECF at the second, though I want to change at some point, mind telling me what it's like?

I'm all the way in June cause I'm an FTS. I kinda wanted to something medical or go into nuclear, but my math score wasn't good enough
#180 - dandyhandycandy (10/04/2013) [-]
Well, you should ask your recruiter about taking the nuke test, they should totally allow it. What state are you, if I may ask?

New York, and I don't really mind. I honestly don't know what I want for my job in the Navy

Ah, I bet you guys have a lot of people being recruited, I live In Georgia, and there is actually a fairly high number of recruits here as well.

Boy whaaat.

When I was at MEPS I got there at 10 am and I was there till about 6 pm. This other girl was there since 5 am and left at about 5 pm. 12 hours dude.
#350 - dandyhandycandy (10/04/2013) [-]
Yea, I had a similar experience, I was of the first to get there, and was definitely the last to sign a contract and get sworn in, got there at 0430, left at like 7, it is horrible in there, like the DMV. The civilian doctors were assholes on top of all of it. Except the ones who do the physicals.

so they give them a temporary support instead of a support that they could use till they die if they choose to

thats fucking smart
#48 - biscuitcrusher (10/03/2013) [-]
it's called the educational support, the danish acronym is SU.
it's based on your family's yearly income if you're living at home, the higher the income, the less you get by the state. if you live away from your parents, you get a higher rate based in how far away it is.
it's Denmarks way of avoiding white trash, though like everything else, it's not perfect.

Australia has begun implementing a similar system. If you live with your parents, then their income is taken into consideration when calculating your payments. If you have an older sibling that is also collecting payments, then your payments will be made smaller, and if you have a younger sibling that starts collecting payments, then their payments will be smaller again. The total amount someone can get is $203.70 per week, which by australian living standards is pretty bad.

But it's completely different if you're an aboriginal. It doesn't matter how much your parents earn, or how many siblings are colelcting payments, you will ALWAYS receive full payment PLUS entitlements. On top of that, universities and colleges have additional support for aboriginal students where they get free food, free drinks, free printing & photocopying, free personal tutoring and much more. All up, an aboriginal student receives around $650 per week. This supposedly makes it fair and fights discrimination.

jesus christ really? i'm not being racist but through my personal experience i haven't met a single aboriginal who went to university (i may be wrong but it's just who i've met) and i would fucking die to get into university and my family have lived here (in australia) for generations, but no because im white (although i have aboriginal in me, i don't think it'd be enough) i have to pay thousands of dollars for an education that i deserve. im fucking moving to denmark

This might sound stupid, but that seems kind of racist. If you're aboriginal then you automatically get benefits just because you were born there? What about immigrants and such?

Someone please point out if I'm missing something.

Aboriginal means a native Australian, right?

It's pretty much the same as affirmative action on the basis of race in the United States. Black and Latino students are invariably accepted to schools plus extensive financial aid more than any Caucasian or Asian students.

We also have a HECS debt where the goverment pays for all of the tuition fees :3
#124 - anon (10/04/2013) [-]
Government doesn't pay for the uni fees per se, it merely provides a type of loan that you eventually pay off in instalments once you start earning more than $49k. It doesn't include an interest component, however it is indexed against the cost of living index. The average cost of living increases each year by around 2-3%, so if you factor that in to a HECS debt, a $20K HECS debt could end up costing around $35k-$50k over a lifetime.

it's true we have something like that too, once my brother turns 21 and gets a job (he just moved to the capital) his yearly earnings would also wiegh in on my support.

thumbs up for bailing out the aboriginals, that's socialliberalism right there!
