Quite indeed, it is actually so primitive it just merely does not die, yet stops growing, and immune to most any viruses, it just has no higher functions.

...to me it seems like it would be easier to try to figure out how to splice our DNA with that of that jellyfish. Or am I wrong in thinking this?
User avatar #152 - ispn (09/25/2013) [-]
Definitely wrong in that sense. The jelly fish is immortal because it is literally 99% water. it pretty much has such little cellular activity that it just doesn't age. To splice our DNA with it would ultimately do nothing
User avatar #132 - turboderp (09/24/2013) [-]
well, it might be even easier to upload our mind to a computer? Or remove our brain from our bodies, and forge them wih some kind of machine. Idunno, but it would make you less dependant on food etc... all you had to do was make sure your brain got whatever it needs to survive, and make sure it reproduce its cells fast enough not to die/forget whatever happened two minutes ago..
User avatar #153 - ispn (09/25/2013) [-]
The flaw in the argument with machine conversion is that you still have to keep your body/brain safe somewhere, you can keep it in the robot's body, but your brain will decay over time and it will age over time, eventually dying. If we were to say transfer consciousness over to the robot as a whole, there is a massive moral conflict with that, because there is no understanding of what actually makes humans sentient like we are. Our brain just functions, and if we put our memories and so forth into the robot, would we actually transfer over with it, or would it just be some version of us with our memories that doesn't have an underlying portion of us.

visa vi, the soul is the main concept here. It's just a question of if it can be put into the robot.

They still print them. They brought them back in 1976. In 2012, they ramped up production of $2 bills, and in 2013 they did the same. In a few years, they should be common circulation.

When I get my checks cashed, I sometimes get $10 worth of $2 bills, for shits and giggles.

Digimons cool and all but these look a bit too accessorized and impractical.
#105 - stankfinger (08/16/2013) [-]
A lot of them are like these because of the different shows/games. Some are impractical but a lot of them had a reasons due to whatever the show/game was using as it's way to either evolve or combine said digimon/'s.
User avatar #72 - shedrule (08/15/2013) [-]
ah memories
User avatar #70 - jlew (08/15/2013) [-]
My thoughts exactly. Pokemon and Digimon have always been similar concepts but have been different enough that those who say either is copying the other look like idiots.
This mega-evolution thing is a straight rip off from Digimon though.
I mean, they go back to normal afterwards, that is exactly who digivolution worked. They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel to try and come up with new pokemon ideas.
User avatar #82 - nustix (08/15/2013) [-]
Yeah digimon is a total rip-off from dragonball z with a temporary change going back afterwards.
User avatar #84 - jlew (08/15/2013) [-]
You misunderstand me. I'm not saying that a temporary change or power-up is a rip-off from any one thing.
The term "mega-evolution" and calling the evolution that is taken from digimon. There were all kinds of digivolutions in the digimon universe. Warp and hyper to name a few.
The second stage digivolution was called mega-digivolution though. I can't remember if it was in the first series or in one of the others, but it was definitely a stage of evolution that the digimon went through.
User avatar #86 - nustix (08/15/2013) [-]
Well how I see it is: You have 2 stages of evolution most of the time and when your pokemon reached the capacity you can temporarily give it a power boost making it ascend even above that level, the term mega-evolutions is just a bad pick. Also for the scraping the bottom of the barrel thing, I don't agree the pokémon franchise is a moneymaker they release the same game every year with new creatures and it's making loads of money, introducing something new is a high risk move and they won't do it if they don't have trust in the idea, but that's just my opinion.
User avatar #93 - jlew (08/16/2013) [-]
Design wise they are scraping the bottom of the barrel. While loads of new pokemon are being made every couple years a good portion of them are just evolutions of earlier gen pokemon (just look at gen 4) newer pokemon are also becoming less creative as time goes on, they added a new type to bring in more ideas but they made an ice cream cone last generation, A FREAKING ICE CREAM CONE.
Pokemon has really just lost its luster for me. The show has completely derailed from what it was for the first few seasons, the games are the same thing over and over just with new setting and characters, and don't get me started on the card game.
Now I'm not fanboying for digimon either, I haven't watched it since the third series and I did watch both shows, but I feel like this mega-evolution thing is too similar to digimon, plus it doesn't really feel right, pokemon are meant to grow stronger and then retain that strength while digimon were computer programs, the digivolution was really just an add-on feature that could be turned off and on so as not to use the program's processing power.
User avatar #95 - nustix (08/16/2013) [-]
I was trying to say they were innovating more with this new idea than with the endless stream of new creatures.
User avatar #97 - jlew (08/16/2013) [-]
I was just clarifying my earlier statement. Plus I said that they brought in a new type to help come up with new ideas.
#99 - stankfinger (08/16/2013) [-]
I enjoy digimon for many reasons. The show seasons never reuse the same set of characters as the main characters. It's focus on new ways to introduce older and new types of digimon is still amazing. The show always try's reinvent itself with every season. I will however say while I do love digimon I still like Pokemon. I just love the digimon games more, though I just want more games like the first digimon world instead of some of the others. These are just my thoughts and I mean nothing negative towards Pokemon, I just like digimon more.
User avatar #73 - aerius (08/15/2013) [-]
Plenty of series had temporary super-forms before Digimon, ya know. Besides, digimon's current iteration has completely moved away from that and is instead about fusing multiple creatures into combinations.
User avatar #83 - jlew (08/15/2013) [-]
Yeah I know. Digimon just kind of is the name that pops up with temporary forms.
I don't actually watch the current digimon. I stopped when series four came out as I hated the fact that they took away the partners for the digidestined. I did see a few episodes from what I think was series 5 (the one with Agumon again, only a different person) and I was happy that it was back to the partner system.
I just never really picked it up from there.
I frankly like both series, I grew up with them both and I still like them both, I've just pulled away from the shows now as its not nearly as good as it once was. Ash has lost his original goal and the show is repeat after repeat nowadays. I have thought about reading the manga I just haven't started to yet. I can't say much for where digimon is nowadays as I haven't tried to watch it.
TL;DR- While series before digimon have had temporary evolutions to bolster the character's power, calling the evolutions "mega-evolutions" seems like its too close for comfort with pokemon and digimon.
User avatar #85 - aerius (08/15/2013) [-]
It's similar, but they were only called mega forms in the English version of Digimon, the word 'Mega' has never been used in the original Japanese version of the show, so I doubt game freak had any knowledge of that.
User avatar #96 - jlew (08/16/2013) [-]
True. It still feels too similar though.
On a side note, it seems interesting that digimon is now fusing creatures, they did that before but it was only for a few of the digimon. Might have to check that out.
User avatar #98 - aerius (08/16/2013) [-]
It's kinda cool, the anti-villain has a greymon, too. Oddly, there' no evolving whatsoever, they're all in fixed forms unless they get crossed.
