There's probably a footpath in the jungle. Too curved and narrow for an army to practically march on, but with bikes you can go much faster than walking, but still do not need that wide path.

A small scout party clears a 10 foot wide (maybe) area, up to a certain point, bikes ready up so many miles ahead, ride through (quickly) and have a mass of troops waiting less than a mile out out of nowhere. (I have no idea ._.)
