cis is the opposite of trans
like homosexuality is opposite of heterosexuality
why is everyone up in arms about a legit word/phrase or whatever because you could just say normal, but then ignore that you could also just say normal to being straight or hetero. I understand tumblr people like to abuse it and whatever but words exist for a reason

I want to start off by saying that just labeling it "trans" is covering a fuckhuge spectrum of people, anything from vegisexual otherkin pyrofoxes to MtF transexuals. All of this is confused more by transgenderism basically becoming a fad recently. It's also by no means "new," this stuff has been around for centuries. In fact there are a lot of cultures in which third genders were and are commonplace. Hell, even the native americans had a word for it. However, I would bet that the guy you're talking about falls under the fad category and is just an idiot.

Anyway, as far as all of the different transgender categories are concerned, I personally believe a lot of them to be arbitrarily defined bullshit. Transsexualism, however, has legitimate neurological roots, similar to those which determine sexuality. The jury's still out on whether it's a disorder because of its relation to gender dysphoria. Just as homosexuality was considered a mental disorder a few decades ago, it is very possible that the psychological discomfort many transsexual people go through is caused entirely by social pressures instead of being innate to them.

At any rate it's not as simple as guys wanting to wear lipstick.

"fuckhuge spectrum of people"
Same thing with calling someone straight, you could categorize people to the end of time, but the fact is the amount of trans people is less than a percent of the population. Hell, even gays are less than 2%. So "trans" getting a title at all should be acceptable enough for recognition, asking for anything more specific is just being a whinny little man -bitch.

Being transgender doesn't have to do with sexual orientation

Cis priviledge is a thing because (I am cis, foreword) trans people have to deal with a LOT of shit. From personal struggles, to weird almost-but-not-quite discrimination such as not being allowed to buy dresses and then down right hatred and bigotry from strangers.

Cis men don't have a personality crisis when they can't use the urinals, cis women don't cry in the changing rooms when they're trying out a new foundation and you can see the stubble on their face.

Cis privilege ISN'T a thing. Everyone has different trials in their life. Trans people's happens to be the ones you mentioned. That doesn't make trans people special or stronger than normal people. They have different issues. Doesn't make them special.
User avatar
#331 - thirdjess (09/24/2014) [-]
I didn't say it made them special. The thing is, yes, everyone has different trials in their life but just because trans people suffer these trials doesn't mean they only suffer these trials. They suffer from debt, they suffer from anxiety, they suffer from heartbreak that everyone else suffers from. And then on top of that they suffer from a whole range of problems unique to them.

Wasn't debating that. What I was debating what the existence of "Cis privilege", which does not exist.

Yes it does. God damn. Do you know anyone who is was or might be transexual or transgender? Or are you just talking arrogantly out of your ass about a topic that you know nothing about?

I grew up in the gay community, with my father DJing at gay bars, on the fucking LGBT parade float EVERY YEAR with transvestites and transexuals coming to my fucking birthday parties, so fucking believe me, I know absolute LOADS of them, except they aren't whiny pussies who complain about how "hard" life is and how "privileged" everyone else is. Calling something "cis privilege" implies that life is sooo much harder for you than everyone else, and everyone else has it easy because they don't have "your" issues.

Most transexuals don't WANT to be priviledged they WANT to be normal, but that's exactly why cis priviledge exists.

Oh that's cool, so I'm lucky I was born the way I am, and am privileged just because I happen to enjoy my gender and sexuality (last one pending)? Do you know how twatty that sounds? "Privilege" in itself it a fucking twatty word. The transexuals that I know are proud as hell of what they are and wouldn't want it any other way. It sets them apart from the norm and they're happy with that. They don't spend time moping around wishing they were cis. They spend it getting their fucking party on.

Because it's not 'minor social bonus' privilege it's 'lifestyle change' privilege. White people privilege not getting judged by a majority of people for being a nerd or a thief or whatever stereotype you'd like. Black privilege is benefitting from diversity programs, larger government support, etc. They are HUGE differences. And yes, again, just because some brats on the internet use it as a reason to act like downright cunts to anyone who doesn't fit their 'outcast' stencil doesn't mean that's how the word is used or what it represents.

Referring back to my friend, he is very proud of himself (as am I) for committing to being himself. But he doesn't go around wearing a transexual flag on his back. He just wants to be a guy, he wants to use male toilets, he wants to not bleed monthly, he wants a mustache. Something as infernally annoying for a typical bloke - lets say accidentally sitting on your own balls - he DREAMS about being able to do that. He PRAYS for it. That's privilege.

Just like first world privilege, we're SO LUCKY to be living in such a wealthy and plentiful climate that we are building multiple stadiums on top of our food waste, someone in another country might run over to a bruised and browning apple and thank their gods or luck that they found it, where we would throw it away because it's not fresh enough for us. We are privileged in that way. That does not mean we aren't allowed to be sad, nor does it mean people in less fortunate situations are never happy.

I understand what you're saying, and what you're trying to convey, but the problem is that's not privilege. That's excessively unfortunate that they feel that way, but it doesn't make everyone else lucky. It makes them unlucky.

No it doesn't. Just because you're only experience with cis priviledge is bratty special snowflakes on the internet with 4.5 piercings doesn't mean that's what it is. That's like saying feminist is only feminazis and doesn't exist in any other form. I know several transexuals, one is my best frend and I know all of the struggles he goes through. So don't tell me I/we are not priviledged for not having to go through what he does.

I'm not saying their struggle isn't real. However, calling something else a privilege is not only fucking implying that they aren't proud of what they are (fe: you're so privileged to be cis, it's so hard being me), but it also trivializes everyone else's issues. What about white privilege, black privilege, male privilege, people-not-allergic-to-cat privilege, people don't sneeze when they look at the sun privilege. people who are naturally good at video games privilege, big booty bitch privilege, naturally thin privilege, people who look older than they are privilege, Mark Hamill privilege, looking a little like Robert Downey Jr just enough to get you pussy privilege?

See how fucking ridiculous those get? EVERYONE on this motherfucking planet has "privilege", so therefore, no one does. We all have different trials, but I prefer not to trivialize other people's pain by calling it "privilege".

I know one woman with a mustache and I'm certain there's been at least a handful of comfortably cis males who've gotten pissed off cause they couldn't buy a dress, but generally speaking.

It's not for no reason. Sure, the animals will be killed either way, but it's still cruel to make them suffer so much unnecessary, and with growing Muslim populations in the UK (which I am definitely not saying is a bad thing), I'm seeing the halal symbol more and more, meaning even more animals will be killed in this cruel way due to the reasoning of "Non-Muslims can eat halal, Muslims can't eat non-halal. Therefore, it makes sense that everything is halal". I've noticed this with chicken especially.
