In the SAO world, Japan has no FCC that would prevent someone from mass producing a children's toy that contains high powered microwave emitters.
In the SAO world, an entertainment product that has a 80% mortality rate is allowed to continue to exist with minimal safeguards.
I liked SAO, but it had some pretty blatant plot holes.

The whole "People are dropping dead like flies, yet the police and authorities do jack shit about it." thing. And don't give me the "The lead programmer made it so that you can't turn off the game or they die." shit. They could have just gotten someone to hack the game and make all the enemies little fluffy bunnies, so the players can just walk out.

That would kill the whole fucking point of the story. It was created by a sole genius and was of a new standard on its own. By that sort of argument, you could kill any anime.
"They could have just done this."
"The main character can just do that"
A plot whole is something within the realm of the anime that isn't fulfilled and is a gaping contradictory (or not) statement. Someone just miraculously hacking the game isn't within the boundries of the show, since the game was created to be unhackable/ inescapable until won. That was the whole point of the show.

Yeah, but it seems kind of forced. In my opinion, it would have been just as interesting and a lot more logical if they'd tweaked the plot a little, so they're in the game voluntarily. Saaaaay, making it a game to the death where the winner gets some huge prize. Like a lottery, where your ticket is basically your life. And the only change they would have had to make is add a 2-minute intro at the start explaining how there's overpopulation and shit in the future and the game was designed to thin out the dumbass population. They wouldn't have even had to change anything else. Just add that little intro and change the evil programmers' lines a bit. Would have pretty much closed all the gaping plot holes.
