In exchange for saving all of their lives by stopping the Enclave and keeping the Super Mutants from eating them? Sounds like a good trade. Also, theres no evidence that Rivet City was not compensated for the engine, possibly by giving them a smaller one that suited their needs adequately.

It would've been in my opinion, if not for the internal corruption and complete lack of competence in some areas. For what is essentially a post-nuclear-war government though it does pretty well for itself compared to the legion.

I've hiked Grandfather Mountain a few times. You're right - it can be damned windy up there.
