I guess that Tom was a really odd character, but I do believe that it could've been pulled off to have him in the movie without having it crash and burn. A really important part there is that the hobbits get lost and get imprisoned in a Wight's BDSM dungeon where Pippin finds a blade forged by Westernesse, that he used to pierce the knee of the Wraith King, after which Eowyn stabs him in the face, which would've been alot better to watch than just having Eowyn take off her helmet, stating that she's in fact not a man and just stabbing the Wraith in the face without having it even try as much as dodge.

Yeah that would have been better, or at least get Galadriel to give it to him. I haven't got much against Tom as a Character it's just reading the book it just completely broke up the story for me to the point where i was thinking "Is this chapter still fucking going on"
But like you said, if they had made say 4 movies instead of 3 then stuff like that would have been included, like Sarumans actual death, or giving the elves something to do, because apparently in the Return of the king they just sat on their arses thinking that this war malarkey is a bit unfortunate

Ah, so many things wrong with the Hobbit. While the Lord of the Rings consists of about 1336 pages, the hobbit only consists of 350 or so. I guess it isn't hard to create three movies out of such a small book if you simply add a ton of stuff that wasn't in the book at all.

It makes sense though, there's no way that you could fit the whole book into just one movie, it gives them a chance to act out every little detail and add a few extras.
But in a way i'm sort of glad they didn't do that to the lord of the rings because then we don't have to put up with Tom fucking Bombadil.
