The first part, "Thermonuclear" is a union between "Thermodynamics" and "Nuclear Physics". Using those together you can understand for nuclear fusion works.
The second part "Astrophysics" is a union between "Astro" and "Physics". Astro is greek for star, Physics is well.. Physics.
Together they make a lot of sence, since in the core of the sun, we do have high energy nuclei interracting with eachother.
You could also just have googled it

Actually, it's a real branch of science dealing with the physics of stars. Makes no sense in the context of this scene, but is in fact a real thing.
