He probably have a stronger light source than the flame itself that is making the shadow. Also, even if it is weaker you would still see a shadow just a lot less.

Its literally just the aluminum block with no pistons, valves or crankshaft. Otherwise it would weight more than he does.
#83 - willys (10/27/2014) [-]
This is what just the block looks like.

0/10 would not wrench with.

Just giving you a hard time, no hate.

I'm stupid. forgive me. I forgot about the head and intake.

And water pump and exhaust.

I'll let it slide for sexual favors. If you know what I mean.

Innuendo's not my strong suit.

LS1 block is 106 lb. With manifolds, heads, valve covers, and water pump like in the picture, probably goes up to about 180-200 lb (80-90 kg for all you daggum for'ners). So it's heavy, but not unmanageable.

cmon druglords just started the trend, you can do it! CHANGE!

I think there's more practicality for the everyday person in the US system.

For example
--- 1.) 0 degrees is fucking cold, 100 degrees is fucking hot. (in terms of weather)
--- 2.) The most pertinent part of a date is the month, so why not make it first?
---------A) When filing the day of the month doesn't really matter.
---------B) Month can be used to determine the season. Day/year can't
--- 3.) A foot is about the length of a foot. (Okay, I kind of hate length measurements)
#108 - goddamnitnedra (10/28/2014) [-]
Well, the point of that image, beside the finger (wich I like to think it's there to symbolize america's stubborn resistance to conversion, rather than a taunt) is that metric system has more.. consistency compared to imperial.
Practicality is debatable, as thousands over thousands of 'murica vs eurofagdom threads have shown.
Let me be clear: if the situation were reversed i'd be pushing for imperial (despite not being logical ), it rustles my jimmies that 3 out of 190something states are going special snowflake when we could just choose one for all and get one step closer the creation of mechs and power armors (dont lie, you all want a fucking ironman suit).

As someone who started school for engineering (and will likely soon go back to finish it), believe me I'd love to see metric take over here. But I ain't holding my breath.

I know of a guy who can deadlift them fully. This guy isn't lifting a normal engine, it's quite a bit lighter.

However, there are people that can actually do this with your standard v8.

#9 - europe (10/27/2014) [-]
How much would an actual engine like that weigh?
User avatar
#11 - lean (10/27/2014) [-]
New aluminum block V8's weigh 450-500 lbs. The older iron engines were 80-100 lbs more than that.
User avatar
#13 - heftigshit (10/27/2014) [-]
It's actually right at 400, iron block OHC v8's are usually 450-500 dry.

#18 - lean (10/27/2014) [-]
I estimated. There is quite a lot of size variance. a 5.7 new hemi is 485 dressed

True, and it is just over 400 lbs. Europe asked about engines like that- the LS1 is the featherweight in the 5.7 bracket.
#7 - anon (10/27/2014) [-]
I was thinking the same thing. I barely can lift a biger motorcycle engine.
#8 - neweire (10/27/2014) [-]
Its a dummy block for checking clearances and other things, wouldn't weigh more than 50kg. But saying that those ls series engines are surprisingly light for a v8, thanks to its aluminium block
