Perhaps OP was trying to shit on religion by pointing out the subconscious and immediate logical "what the fuck" thought we get when someone considers child murder a great Christmas present.

What OP is trying to say is that it takes a certain fucked up reasoning/philosophy to consider something like Child murder a good thing, and religion does just that. Here, lemee quote Kurt Baier [died in 2010]:

"On the Christian view, other things being equal, the most kindly thing to do would be for every one of us to kill as many of our friends and dear ones as still have the misfortune to be alive, and then commit suicide without delay, for every moment spent in this life is wasted. On the Christian view, God has not made it that easy for us. He has forbidden us to hasten others or ourselves into the next life. ... On this view, murder is a less serious wrong than suicide. For murder can always be confessed and repented and therefore forgiven, suicide cannot. ...

... These views strike us as odd, to say the least. They are the logical consequence of the official medieval evaluation of this our earthly existence. If this life is not worth living, then taking it is not robbing the person concerned of much. The only thing wrong with it is the damage to God's property, which is the same both in the case of murder and suicide. We do not take this view at all. Our view, on the contrary, is that murder is the mot serious wrong because it consists in taking away from some one else against his will his most precious possession, his life."

- Kurt Baier

He never said his continent was better, he was saying that the way you do things is kinda strange, don't be so defensive over something that everyone thinks is stupid.

Read my comment again and tell me where exactly I said that My Continent was better than America. In-fact, I really want to move to America one day. That doesn't mean I'll ever start thinking in Fahrenheit or Feet/Inches. Even in America, I'll be "That one Weird guy who does everything all Europe-like."

We are a republic because we have limited government and protection of minority rights. We are a (representative) democracy because the government derives its power from the people, who vote for their representatives. The two are not mutually exclusive.

"It's not like people are just selected for the electoral college and they make their own choice as to who to vote for. The electoral college is legally bound by each state to vote a certain way. "
Actually this depends on individual state laws. Not all states require electors to vote a certain way. There have been electors who voted against the party that appointed them, though this has never changed the outcome of an election.

The main problems with the electoral college are that a) small states are overrepresented (relative to population) because of the distribution of electoral votes, and b) in majority-red or majority-blue states like Texas or California, minority-party voters have virtually no chance of ever influencing elections, because the majority will always get ALL of the electoral votes (50.1% popular vote might get 100% of the electoral votes, while the other 49.9% gets no electoral votes at all). This is what people sometimes mean when they say their vote doesn't matter.

Well, in theory a democracy should be a form of government that is elected BY the people FOR the people. But if all of the candidates you can vote for don't give a shit about you... well, you're kinda fucked.

True, but technically America is not a democracy. We have democratic tendencies, but we are in fact a republic by definition.
