| What they don't tell you is how batshit insane the japanese were at that time. They were throwing themselves and their children off cliffs if there was even a possibility of Americans landing near them, and they were literally going to keep fighting till every person in Japan was annihilated. If the U.S. hadn't dropped those bombs, the casualties would have been astronomical. If you did, you'd know that, in fact, the japanese were NOT batshit crazy. They were actually (who'da thunk it?) pretty normal people. mn, you can't really base that on a movie. Yea the movie is based on non-fiction books (looked it up) but there are just too many firsthand accounts and plenty of credible sources detailing the insane fanaticism the japanese people had back then. If the kamikaze pilots and banzai charges aren't enough to persuade someone that there was something seriously wrong with their thinking, then the memoirs of those who witnessed mass suicides would do the trick. #208

itsbendingtime (04/14/2013) [-] >implying America didn't bait Japan into attacking because they wanted to get in on WW2 Er.. we didn't? Japan was running around taking over countries in the pacific, so we stopped supplying them oil and steel so they couldn't make anymore machines of war. Japan didn't like it so they blew up our naval base in 1941. They being America? millions killed where? Hiroshima and Nagasaki? I am confus #212

itsbendingtime (04/14/2013) [-] But you didn't have any problems selling weapons and oil to Germany? We weren't the only ones. The war in Europe was just business as usual for the Allies and the Nazis. That being said we didn't give them nearly enough or they wouldn't have been invading Egypt, the middle east, and the USSR looking for oil if they were getting plenty from the allies. By 1944 Nazi Germany had run dry on oil. #215

itsbendingtime (04/14/2013) [-] Because you stopped selling it to them. (This is also the reason that "US saved the UKs ass" is bullshit, because the threat of an invasion of the British Isles was ended when the RAF established air superiority in the battle of Britain. Lend Lease did not begin until well after this event, and up until that point the US was selling oil and weapons to Germany. (In fact the German bombers relied on a patented additive to their fuel which was only produced by a US oil company. The bombing of London was literally impossible without American supplies to Germany, thanks for that.) Hell, just watch this: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=k3Ya5qiiW6k#t=5274s The whole video is an eye opener, but the part I linked to is the bit that pertains to this conversation. I'm not trying to argue that we're the good guys in this situation. Since history is written by the victor. Our only physical involvement in Europe was from D-day to the end. "Our only physical involvement in Europe was from D-day to the end." What in the fuck am I reading and what the fuck are you smoking? June 6th, 1944 was for god damned sure not our earliest physical involvement. During the Battle of Britain they had Eagle Squadrons, American volunteers flying with the RAF. Sure there weren't many of them, and it wasn't official, but the fact is we were "physically" involved there. Have you ever fucking heard of Operation Torch? Operation Husky? Anzio? The 8th fucking AIR FORCE?? (One of the largest airborne juggernauts of the war?) The Red Tails? The 56th Fighter Group with the infamous "Gabby" Gabreski? The Battle of Monte Cassino? Operation Diadem? The Battle of Berlin (air-forces only)? For fucks sake man, the U.S. was all over Europe well before Operation Overlord and D-Day. In the end, it's the governments that are fighting, and the civilians (who have NOTHING to do with it) are the ones dying over it. That nuke on Japan did nothing other than mass killing an entire population. You say: "When you attack a nation". Those civilians, the ones brutally vaporized, never did such a thing. But I guess american brains are too infantile to comprehend this... at least the japs aimed for american military structures, aka battleships. Bombing a city of civilians however, can be qualified as a crime against humanity i don't get the point though? is it that ''we're not the only ones''? hell if you want to go that way brits have done far worse than dresden in matters of crimes against civilians The bombs were dropped directly on the city because the Japanese had moved most of their military facilities into the city and disguised them as civilian buildings to lower the accuracy of American bombs. No one would bomb a city full of civilians for no reason. Except the Nazis. #214

N. Korean citizen (04/14/2013) [-] >Implying America even warned Japan about the nuke What the fuck are those American text books telling you children? thoses text books tell us that japan committed an act of war against a nation that was at peace, and the US attacked a hostile nation that was already at war, after giving multiple opportunities to surrender, and japan rrefused, even after the first bomb the refused to surrender What they don't tell you is how batshit insane the japanese were at that time. They were throwing themselves and their children off cliffs if there was even a possibility of Americans landing near them, and they were literally going to keep fighting till every person in Japan was annihilated.
