How old are you? If you think 3 different major types is a lot then you must not be that old...
If it's three different ones by the same company there is a problem.
idk, working as a repair tech I can tell you they're not doing it like they used to just to have special snowflake chargers. The 30 pin usb connector apple used to use did the job but it was terrible and broke often. They upgraded to the lightning usb (the first one on the thumb in the picture) which is virtually impossible to break but cheap power bricks like the ones from most gas stations or overseas can cause a shock that damages your tristar (nicknamed the u2ic chip because of it's designation on the boards.) That is costly to repair but I don't really see them changing it because that fails rather naturally between 2-3 years of use, which is long after apple hopes you've gave them a thousand more bucks, Galaxys on the other hand have been advancing their usbs about the same way, the type b was mainstream when I first started repairing and those mangled themselves and your charging port alike. There were two different types of Type B made (gets confusing, I know) but it was simply because a lot of micro usbs came with their power brick attached back then and if you plug the wrong one into a cheap phone without much protection you'll cook it. The micro-usb design tends to only be updated now to allow for faster data transfers, which makes sense considering nowadays people plug their phones into their tvs to stream movies via micro-usb.
Okay. That's interesting. I just hope they'll eventually find one that works and stick with it.
Problably Type-C. It's slowly replacing MicroUSB thanks to even being able to charge laptops (no excuse for them to not have a proper Type-A port though) and Lightning is Apple's proprietary connector - and will only last as long as they force it to. There's literally nothing Lightning does that Type-C cannot, aside from vendor lock-in through authentication chips.

Whats it about? Aside from obviously a love story possibly with a deaf girl.
