Most of the companions I have seen have returned to their own times and/or start a romantic relationship. Starting with the first companion, Susan, and ending with the last companion I have seen till they departed, Jo.

Surely they all die. Whenever the Doctor is far in the future most of his beloved companions are long dead.
But they weren't killed while travelling with the Doctor, unlike say, Adric.

Consider them in a state of being alive at the T0.
This is the time right before the angel sent Rory back in time.
At T1 Rory is sent back in time by an angel, and is seen to be dead.

The angels have been explained to feed off the potential energy of their victims by sending them back in time (which doesn't make any sense but i'll grant it to them as science fiction)

Rory's potential future was taken from him, effectively killing him.
If we consider death to be the transfer of potential energy to... death energy?...
Then Rory was "killed" in the doctor's presence.

i know how it works, and i believe this to be a matter of how you look at "death". I see your point, but som eof the companions died with the doctor by their side, while the ponds just went back i time, and lived their life together. So yes they died i another time because of the doctor, but they were safe from when they got sent back.
