There will still be more physical cores running and that will cause battery drain. Also, correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't RAM deal more with the multitaking and background processes?

This is true, it would cause battery drain. Though if you have 4 cores running at a low speed (say, 700mhz) it would minimize battery drain until it needs to increase the speed. That's all controlled by the CPU governor.

RAM is random access memory, and only holds information from multitasking. It does not do any operations or calculations, so it wouldn't deal anymore with the background processes.

hmm I was told by our apple rep it has a quad core. However, I didnt check into it myself. Maybe im wrong

Dual core.

Also, quad core does help. Even though most single apps dont use multiple cores, there are other processes running on their own threads, which do use other cores.
So while it may not increase the performance of one app, it will increase the performance of the entire system, which leads to less freezing, crashing, and such.
