However, for many Americans it's the principle; the money you spend on healthcare goes to
I know it may seem odd, or even petty by some non-Americans who grew up in and cherish their socialized medicine(and honestly, if it works for you, then great!), but as a general rule Americans tend to not like to be forced to pay for others. Socialized medicine can lead to situations in which a fit, healthy person ends up paying for an obese, smoker's treatment, therefore you take on the cost of another individual's poor life choices.
I begrudge no man their love of their way of life; if socialized medicine works for you and you genuinely prefer it from a moral and practical standpoint, then by all means, you should live in a place where that is the law. However, my particular background and philosophy dictates that I should not have to pay for another's mistake.
When I'm charged over and over and over every month, and then suddenly I have to pay half of my medical bill, what the fuck was I paying into before? Employing more people to not pick up phones and not let me speak to a human? It certainly wasn't paying for me.
Unfortunately under the US's current system we all end up paying shit loads of money to take care of unhealthy people. A socialized system would be better- we'd still pay for other people, but we'd pay less because medical providers couldn't price gouge the shit out of us with insane 1000% markups.
