Frenchfag here, we learn a lot about USA in school as much as Europe and Asia or Africa, it is a part of the course from the age of 12. Obviously we aren't learning things like isolationist policies and stuff like that, but for exemple the New Deal, basic stuff indeed. If we want to learn more about it, we have to chose a course that deal with American history in Uni (what I did, I choose Langage, litterature and foreign civilizations, English speciality, in which we learn about UK, Ireland and North America from the begining to the end (so for US from the Mayflower Compact to nowaday, and for UK well, from the first civilizations that came there to nowadays) at the uni we also learn how work the American system, the justice, the economy, the media. Unless what most of Americans think, there is a lot of people in France that have huge interest for America, as much as for Uk. Funny thing is that both people from these countries hate us.
#139 - firesky (03/13/2014) [-]
I'm not a fan of France either, but that's primary because of the language. Didn't manage to learn it in 5 years.

The people are pretty nice, at least the younger ones. And the more in the north you are, the nicer they are imo.
User avatar #144 - willcutting (03/13/2014) [-]
I rather prefer the British culture than the French one. I don't know why. Still there is a lot of nice French people, and I hope to be one of them, but there is also a lot of jerks, like in every country I suppose, I think stupidity isn't a matter of culture or country or even religion or I don't know what else, but more of education.
User avatar #93 - learnthisline (03/13/2014) [-]
What?
We learned extensively about the Civil Rights era in History, and we were made to colour in a map and label each individual State in Geography.
I suppose I was fortunate in going to a private school, but I can't see it being much different in State schools. But that's just a presumption.
#85 - firesky (03/13/2014) [-]
I learned in school all states with their capitals, the political system, the economy, consequences (and reasons) from binding the Dollar from Gold to Oil, a bit about the lifestyle (mobile homes in Tornado areas, more likely spending than saving money, how common buying shares is,...) the discovery in 1492, colonization, the american revolution in 1774 the parttaking in both WW and the Vietnam War.

Of course some things I know are from movies, but most things I learned about the US was in school
#86 - slugnugget (03/13/2014) [-]
The minority learned about the US.

how about almost every mammalion species in the animal kindom
especially primates(bonobos even chimpanzees to a lesser extent)
and also whats to disprove it.
for every person to be born inclined to be one way and not the other . would suggest derangement or a chemical imbalance in one of the forms of sexuality.
through out history many cultures did not see difference in sexualities and regularly displayed all inclinations
its only around a two thousand years ago did any civilisation actually start seeing anything wrong in one of the sexualities.
only really Judaism and Christianity were the first who really tried to persecute right and wrong behaviour in this regard.
even then the Romans still practiced a pan sexual if not just a bisexual outlook on society, granted it determined your station in society . The vikings practiced it, so did the samurai. Do I need to mention the ancient Greeks ,Egyptians, and Sumerians so no it very likely a sexuality is based on a spectrum. not born straight or gay
#115 - slugnugget (03/13/2014) [-]
If I remember correctly they also used to think it was okay to have sex with children? All you're saying just shouts biased theory to me and I stand to believe you are not born on the sexual spectrum.
User avatar #121 - archangel (03/13/2014) [-]
lets think how its a biased theory
do I say any thing is wrong
do I back it up with historical evidence ans scientific( granted zoological evidence)
Is this not a unifying theory for the topic
biased no I supporting a theory with facts through that medium I am expressing an opinion
and all opinions are bias
however I haven't mad any counter arguments to the theory well because it is very hard to disprove
there has been a few experiments to find out the difference between a person who is gay and who is straight
what they found was there was corellation with a hyperactive adrenal gland to those who Identify as straight .In the same research this feature it fluctuate and can be self correcting and may have nothing to with the persons sexuality at all. however it may suggest that every person can exhibit the same behaviour.
granted the children thing is morally wrong but I am not debating morals. Furthermore that does not suggest that the spectrum does not exist or that my backing up the theory with historical edvidence any less relevant In fact paedophiles being a deviant behaviour shows the limits of the spectrum as most paedophile will exhibit sexual attraction to adults of both gender too.
So you bring up a taboo behaviour and just because I say all sexual is natural and with in each of us to exhibit does not mean some behaviour should not be taboo
paedophiles and zoophiles should be but I was not even thinking them in this. So I have to ask are you trying to say that homosexuality or god forbid heterosexuality should be taboos? why else would you bring up taboos
#116 - slugnugget (03/13/2014) [-]
I'll have to correct myself. You can be born on the sexual spectrum scale like the kinsley scale. But that scale also implies you can be be 100 percent straight or 100 percent homosexual. Not everyone is in between no matter how far to an end. Sure there are same sex mammals fucking each other. What you are implying is every single individual mammal would fuck another of the same sex given the right requirements.
User avatar #123 - archangel (03/13/2014) [-]
yes they can
I mean I would say I am 100% hetero doesn't mean its not possible . because all humans humans emotions and body chemistry are always in flux. and can be altered through out side variables look at the experiment raising kids as different genders or the american prison system

yes and it tightens up over a period of 1-2 years. If its so bad then obviously your only option is surgery. Still the excess skin is hardly an excuse for not having a flat stomach. Unless you are dropping some insane amount of weight.

"if you lose a lot of weight you're always going to have a little bit of side stuff or not have a flat stomach"

This needs no evidence. A silly comment. More of an excuse giving by people who have difficultly dropping the last bit of weight.

Alfred isn't trained in numerous forms of unarmed combat. Superman can kill in 700 different ways. An old man who just became superhuman shouldn't be allowed to win.

If superman moves so fast, how come he can't dodge a headbutt?
#123 - slugnugget (03/04/2014) [-]
he didnt "win" did he?

and the reason alfred managed to hit superman is the same reason superman and flash get hit by other regular speed characters. For story progression.
