you sir have all the right. i disagree with most of religion (except for the part where it says not to be a dick) but when logic and rational thought is of no help, there is no where left to turn other than religion to explain why something is happening. i think that Muslims are so religious mostly because of the fact that they need an explanation for the things that happen around them, and a set of rules so that things can be expected. because of all the wars and shit they go through science and other areas of study cannot explain human behavior as good as religion does

But what if you grow up in an environment where you are never taught about a higher power and never learn of one. What would one do then?

And why be proud of being an atheist? Personally I don't really consider myself anything.
#447 - comanderspy (01/31/2013) [-]
then you are an atheist if you dont believe in nothing.

i dont really know what would happen to that guy with no religious exposure, i think it depends, if he was brought to a modern world without any religious whatever, then he would be an atheist or man of science. but if not, eventually he would need a way to explain why the sky is blue and night dark. probably ponies?

Actually I am semi religious to such a degree, but it's pure traditionalism more than anything else.

But I don't think that "no religion = man of science"
Man have been without science and religion for a long time before we adapted the oldest tribal beliefs.

i dont know, i mean back, and i mean waaaaaay back when humans were in africa, just finished being monkeys, there was absolutely nothing to do. at all. so the only thing left was think, or fuck. and you cant fuck all day long. eventually you are going to bump with questions like "What the fuck is that shiny ball up there? some super cool guy must have put it there." eventually developing into a more personal relationship.

They were probably thinking about getting food. However when humans evolved from small packs and into bigger tribes with some sort of organization and got chiefs and settled down, even if only temporarily, then I believe that religions started. Up until that point, survival was the prime goal.
#481 - comanderspy (02/01/2013) [-]
umm, you sir have some good points, i enjoy this debate

Thank you.

Also Science and Religion walk hand in hand. Only Feudal Europe and other particular time periods and places that got the right chemistry end up in the clusterfuck that is a scientific halt and complete religious rule where the the main religious body is controlling every aspect of society.

that is very sad, because those leaders are not like ghandi, or budda, they really dont give a fuck about god, they really care more about the power they have over their people ie* medieval Europe - enlightenment europe

#506 - satrenkotheone (02/01/2013) [-]
Well it's a typical thing for people with power to do. Don't judge them too harshly, for what would you do in their shoes?
#516 - comanderspy (02/01/2013) [-]
oh god so true :(

im from a poor country filled with corruption, so i sometimes think of being a dictator and cleaning the shit out of it, not ruining the people's life, just getting rid of the political scum (there is an average of 75 million dollars "lost" every year) but i dont think that when they tell me "you can do anything" i could be able to stay straight, maybe but i dont know. (btw the country is dominican republic, i live in the us now)

Many people think they would. But unfortunately they probably wouldn't. Even if they once were unfortunate with their place in society.

I don't know about my own path. I know I'd be a dictator. I know I'd spend lots of money on myself, military and infrastructure. But that's what I know. The rest, well I'd have to find out.

Sometimes when I bring my Gameboy to the bathroom I end up in the shitter for long periods of time even when I'm done pooping.
Those pokemons aren't going to catch themselves.
Then my legs fall asleep and I pray to a higher power to stop the pain, but it continues on.
As you can see, when I have no one to turn to, no higher power is there for me.
Ergo, There is no higher power.

But what if the higher power is evil?
User avatar

still, atheist: 1 Christians: 0 because they said god is good
User avatar
#456 - satrenkotheone (02/01/2013) [-]
I still think arguments between Christians and atheists are fucking retarded, for the most part.

That out of the way, yes they said God is good. But atheism is more about no God rather than saying God is evil.

I suppose it can be fun to trying to ruin what another person believe in.
#486 - comanderspy (02/01/2013) [-]
lol was that sarcastic?

idk i just like seeing them "uuh, uuh," i just have a little troll in me, little tiny one.
User avatar
#494 - satrenkotheone (02/01/2013) [-]
Slightly, yes. I like to ruin people's beliefs only when it calls for it. And that is in situations where they end up believing they're better than other people without a proper reason. However I tend to leave them alone and ruin themselves.

Oh we all do.
#389 - anon (01/31/2013) [-]
God is a higher power.
Higher power is evil.
Faggots are evil.
OP is a faggot.
God is OP.

Thank you for your insightful answer anon...

But God is not the higher power in all cases.
User avatar
#455 - comanderspy (02/01/2013) [-]
lol wut? in every religion (exept buddaism and some obscure african voodoo shit) god is super OP and doest afraid of anything. omnipotent and omnipresent
User avatar
#466 - satrenkotheone (02/01/2013) [-]
I am referring more to how that the higher power isn't always God. In some cases it's many Gods and in other cases it's a Celestial being that was discovered and we humans prayed to it as a higher power.
#471 - comanderspy (02/01/2013) [-]
good point...
#406 - anon (01/31/2013) [-]
But OP posts things on FJ (as well as other parts of the interwebs) which brings us all together in the comment sections as a community. Does this not stand to reason that God is OP?
User avatar
#408 - satrenkotheone (01/31/2013) [-]
It is more like OP is the head of state or an organization.
#417 - anon (01/31/2013) [-]
OP is head of state/organization
OP is God
Every head of state/organization is God
All better?

Have you actually talked to much atheists about this or did it come right from your ass like how it smells?
User avatar

Why did this get a red thumb? I'm not annoyed, just confused. Do you people seriously think that atheists always swap to YOUR opinion whenever they suffer at all?
