You fuckers get paid a higher percentage and your economy is awesome, plus health and education benefits that you receive free and aren't outrageously taxed for on top of that a high percentage of our economy is based on gas the flooding of shale oil from opec may have dropped oil prices but any oilfield worker like myself knows that lower gas prices can't be appreciated by the people who help provide it.

It's not that simple though. That argument only works for gay marriage on the assumption that regualr marriage is fine. I'm not just saying I don't like it. If I believe that marriage in general is a negative force on our society, culture, etc. and that divorce is even more damaging (which like 50% of marriages end up with), particularly on children, then it isn't 'problem solved' to just ignore it and not get married.

I understand, there might even be evidence supporting that argument. Though, beyond playing devil's advocate I can't see this becoming valid. The point I made was specifically tailored toward the gay marrage discussion. I'd have responded differently if that weren't the case, and it would be more sympathetic towards your point of view.

What if I am against marriage in all forms? Can I be against gay marriage?
Can I genuinely believe that heterosexual marriage is bad but the tradition is too strong to combat it, whereas homosexual marriage is also bad but actually fightable?
User avatar
#96 - fhonax (07/25/2015) [-]
I don't think this should be thumbed down, but you can be against any form of marriage, that is up to you, the question is are you against homosexual or any other than heterosexual relationships? Or are you simply against marriage of any form?

I have no issue with normal relationships, whether straight or gay, I just think that marriage is, on balance, a negative force on society. Divorce is even worse, particularly on children, and about 50% of marriages end up in divorce.

It is my opinion that marriage promotes lies, false promises, materialism, maintains a slavery-esque ownership of women attitude, causes depression, devalues vows/oaths/promises etc. and devalues the concept of personal honour. I think those who get divorced usually do so by bad luck more than poor judgement or personal character. I don't think I need to explain what's bad about divorce, especially for children.

In general, I think society should be encouraging less people to get married, not expanding it to greater demographics.

I hate calculating from $/gallon to kr/liter...
But isn't $1.05 per liter a good price? That's the price we had per liter in Norway in like 2005... Now it's almost $1.70 per liter or $6.28 per gallon.
