It is scaring me in some ways, but exciting me in many others. I cringe looking at my older work, like terribly. Got any particular favorite artists?

Ah sounds good! I want to be a tattoo artist myself, getting loads myself :) And think of it as any medium, just have to learn and practice :) I know the feeling, a year ago when I first started out I went on a tattoo forum and put my stuff on there (Was terrible) and got slaughtered and told to give up and I'd never make it. But like I said, I love art, I love discussing it, I would be more than happy to help another artist :)
User avatar #178 - skyninja (02/22/2013) [-]
Well, by the looks of it, you'll be proving them wrong for sure. Learning tattooing seems like a terrifying prospect, however.
The practice over the years has definitely not been a fruitless endeavor, looking at older work is almost laughable. I love art as well, but I've never really been much for discussing it. Then again, we're doing just that now, so...

What career would you like to do art-wise? And fair enough, but I'm more than happy to help you, I've been helped by a few artists, and helped others. I like that about the art community :)
User avatar #161 - skyninja (02/22/2013) [-]
I'd like to move towards some aspect of game design, hopefully as a texture artist. Unfortunately, the only tool I have to use for that now is GIMP. Kinda worried I'll be lost with any other tools.
And I've never really been too community-minded. I tend to feel out of place.

I think I've been fairly lucky in my progress, plus blessed with a brother who helps me a lot. Are you doing it as a hobby or doing classes? What sort of mediums are you using? Watch some David Kassan stuff, learnt a fair bit from a dvd of his :)
User avatar #133 - skyninja (02/22/2013) [-]
Previously it was through classes with various mediums; paint, pastels, charcoal, clay, etc. Since this year, however, just as a hobby and mostly with pencil. I'll have to remember to look up David Kassan some time.
