There's a differnece between "it was so fucking beautiful i wanted to cry" and "well everyone has it and it looks so nice, i'm gonna get one so people will think i'm sophisticated because dandelion seeds turning into birds are fucking poetic"
It's like that infinity símbol with "life" ,"dream" or whatever written in it, it COULD be much more creative with a speck of effort but then it wouldn't be so trendy.

HURR DURR OH MAN ONE SINGLE POINT OF YOUR OTHERWISE WELL THOUGHT OUT ARGUMENT IS INCORRECT, SO IT'S COMPLETELY INVALID - skebaba, 2016
Even with building the speeder, as I have been informed of since making that post, building something is completely different from piloting it. I certainly wouldn't trust the engineers and builders that make planes to fly one with no training. Just because you understand the reason something works doesn't mean you understand how to MAKE it work. Not to mention, piloting a speeder (essentially a hover motorcycle) is VERY different from piloting a space ship (essentially a bomber, which she proceeded to fly more like a fighter jet).

Hehe, you said "trump democracy".

Immature jokes aside, your vote matters exacly as much as your neighbor's. At least it should. (Looking your way, US electoral college)

Problem with today's elections is the ammount of propaganda in media in some countries (How it happens that most nationwide tv networks in a country are controlled by a single entity with political bias and agenda is baffling). It gets hard to tell if what you're looking at is the complete picture, a representative sample of reality, a carefuly picked portion of it or a flat out lie.

That being said, the attitude "votes don't matter" is pretty corrosive to democracy when more people hold it. Please don't hold such attitude and vote. If there is noone to vote for, run for office yourself. Good chances are you will find some supporters in your local area, then more as you progress. That's how my step uncle became mayor 8 years ago. The locals had interest no other candidate was supporting, so he gethered a small crowd of supporters, ran for office and won the local elections .

You should care who rules your country because you are one of the individuals who live in it.

If you live in a democracy, you get a vote. Use that vote, use it wisely. Everybody eligible gets one as well. Best system there is so far.
If you don't live in a democracy, opting out is a bit harder, but you may find a way to defect. In that case, thermite is powder aluminium and iron rust powder. Put it in a flower pot with a hole and light it at the rail tracks. Shit can burn straight trough an inch thick steel plate. Also, read up on general sabotage and guerilla warfare. You may want to try and avoid civilian casualties, though.
If your rulers commit attrocities or would force you to commit attrocities, you may withdraw your aliegence to your rulers on the grounds that they do not support your other values. And with that you may also defect as mentioned above.

All the same, you are not taking up arms just for your leader, unless it's an offensive war with no real benefits to your people that only serves to line the pockets of some less than honorable people. Most of the time, you would be defending your fellow countrymen. And they would do the same for you.
#173 - skebaba (01/05/2016) [-]
Except your vote doesn't matter, since most people are idiot sheeple. Democracy is just the least bad way of governing. A good and benevolent king would still trump democracy.

Then I guess absolutely everyone who goes to the doctor's office is wasting the doctor's time, thus rendering having an office redundant

Do not seek medical attention yourself, you are only wasting their time
Only if you are incapacitated and unable to seek medical help yourself are you worthy of their notice
User avatar
#20 - theseareletters (01/01/2016) [-]
You're missing the point.

You don't need to go to the doctor for the flu, a cough, a cold, congestion, or any of the other many other self treatable illnesses that over the counter medication can treat and eliminate.

The doctor is saying that by the sick person traveling to their practice- the illness they are carrying could be transferred to a more vulnerable patient. As well, spread to the rest of the public that is exposed to the sick individual who has to travel there.

When the doctor writes a note, they must do a full examination of a patient that doesn't need their help. Then do a lot of paperwork that takes up their time and the time of the insurance company (or government agency, in this case).

TL;DR, don't waste a doctors time because you have a self treatable disease. The employer needs to trust that it's employees are sick and need to stay home. Otherwise, don't employ someone you don't trust.

Hospitals are inundated with petty shit that they don't need to deal with.

It's a common issue.
User avatar
#24 - captainprincess (01/01/2016) [-]
And your average punter is inundated with not being a doctor
Hows he supposed to know the difference anyway

There are more diseases than there are unique symptoms and many are shared between both harmless and dangerous infections and illnesses

A doctor performing a medical examination is anything but wasted time
#18 - mayoroftownsville (01/01/2016) [-]
Point is, you don't generally go to the doctor's office for the common cold. It's entirely unnecessary, and, as the doctor specified, potentially exposed immunocompromised patients to viruses while taking up the doctor's time. He's basically saying that people are coming in for illnesses that they wouldn't normally come in for due to the company's policy, and it's putting stress on the system.
User avatar
#19 - captainprincess (01/01/2016) [-]
I might
you dont know me

I mean I dont but people might
not to mention there are people who might go for other reasons while they have the cold

Such as the elderly or diseased who might be brought low by the cold and fear they are vulnerable to worse illnesses

Really there's not much of a point here except "Dont go to the doctor's office, youre wasting their time" and I said "no youre not thats what theyre there for"
#23 - mayoroftownsville (01/01/2016) [-]
He's talking about people who need a doctor's note for work, so probably not the elderly or diseased. And if you have some other medical issue in addition to the cold then obviously you are justified in going, but that's not what he was talking about in the note. You CAN go to the doctor's office for the common cold, just like you CAN go for a scraped knee, but you don't need to. There is no medication that can help the common cold. Sometimes the doctor will give you an antibacterial, but that's honestly just to shut people up who demand treatment. All you can do for a cold is stay hydrated and rest, and all you can accomplish by coming in to the doctor's office for a cold is spread disease. And once again, the implication in the letter is that these people wouldn't be coming in if their jobs didn't require a sick note, which is why he's now charging for it.
#25 - captainprincess (01/01/2016) [-]
He was talking overall, and that's not enough
He only got onto the specifics of "self treatable" which is quite an assumption to make when he already discounted a secretary having the medical knowledge to write a note, so how a patient is supposed to know theyre not in any danger and would be wasting a medical professionals time having him do his job is beyond me

But simply put, given the lack of detailing in the op about that specific factor, and the lack of mentions of it until the idea that doctors offices are there to tend to sick people came up he never mentioned it either

It's arguably an irrelevant factor in the argument, if you could call it that
I only asked why writing notes is so burdensome and he came out with this spiel about wasting doctors' time

Yeah like charging money for writing notes is going to alleviate the time issues anyway
#26 - mayoroftownsville (01/01/2016) [-]
Any decent doctor isn't going to write a note without doing a check up, and a check up takes up time and resources. Because you're right, treating sick people is his job, and he probably takes it pretty seriously.

He is charging the company in the hopes that they stop requiring sick notes, or that if they don't, he will recoup the losses incurred. The patients themselves are still free to go in if they want to, and they suffer no losses from it. The only people this would prevent going in are those who were only doing it for the note in the first place.
User avatar
#27 - captainprincess (01/01/2016) [-]
No it wouldnt
They could still do it even after their company stops requiring it

It wouldnt work but they could still go
probably still get an examination, cause it's the doictors job

I dont see as much would be changed at all
#29 - mayoroftownsville (01/01/2016) [-]
That's why I said the patients would still be free to go? Like I said, it would only prevent those who were only going for the note anyway. As in, those who wouldn't go if they didn't need the note. The people who could, but wouldn't, of whom there are probably many since most people know not to go to the doctor's office for the common cold. Some people may still go, but the number will almost certainly be reduced if it goes from a requirement to a choice.
User avatar
#30 - captainprincess (01/01/2016) [-]
No
It wouldnt prevent anyone at all

That was the thing
Even the people who were only going for the note could still do that
They just wouldnt leave with a note, probably

But nothing else would necessarily be made to change
What if those same people continued going for another reason
#31 - mayoroftownsville (01/01/2016) [-]
They could still go, but would they?

You yourself said you don't go the the doctor for a cold. But you would if your job required a note, right? There you go, you're one of the people the doctor is trying to stop from coming in. And you aren't a special snowflake, there are others like you.
User avatar
#33 - captainprincess (01/01/2016) [-]
They might
Who can say

Suppose that since I didnt need a note I had to prove to a no-less skeptical boss that I really was ill and not simply slacking off for a day
I might have to go for a note afterall, just now it's not officially mandated or anything it'd just be my boss calling me telling me "how do I know youre not just taking a day off"

Or any other reason
I might like the doctor and want to flirt
I might be a hypochondriac and fear that Im terribly sick
I might spend the extra time spent at home doing something silly and hurt myself, suddenly requiring an actual doctors visit

Theres no way to know for sure
But calling it wasted time just like that is a little bit silly
At the end of the dya, a doctor is doing his job and doing his job means his time isnt wasted
