It eventually fucked me up a little. Even now, when people ask me a question I'll just ignore them, because that was my instinct when everyone was staring at me.

Thats not automatically jealously, you're just presuming its jealousy because then you can feel better about it. People spite others for a variety of reasons, to include feelings of legitimate reinforcement. It's like I said on my other comment not in this thread, you lot are trying to Sherlock your way into figuring out what this guy is thinking by making a shitton of assumptions.

A criminal mastermind is a very competent person pursuing the wrong profession, a cheater is about half of the dipshits on this planet, why do you think its so hard to tell? Cheaters are usually pretty open about it, because despite what you think cheating isn't the same dishonesty you see in psychopaths, its usually (not in ops case probably) but usually its someone who's looking for attention and their lover isn't giving it to them so they turn to someone else. Not hard to figure out, and while dishonest it's not a psycho-type of dishonesty so even honest people can cheat, and honest people aren't hard to search.

You may not have had much human contact, but let me assure you if you talk to someone and go so far as to marry them 95% of the time you know they're a cheater.
