IamSofaKingdom (01/16/2015) [-] imgur.com/gallery/af3dT I know it is imgur (I got the link from my brother) but this is a promising list for this year. TIP BEFORE READING! I wrote a lot but tried to separate every anime or two into its own section, so you can just read the first line of each if you want. Also you didn't list Attack on Titan and, a couple minor issues aside, it was very enjoyable for me. Soul Eater is another really good one (original, the second series isn't like the first at all) the only issue for me was the ending, like the last episode or two. Do you remember the guy in Bebop that was dressed like an actual cowboy and was dueling Spike? I heard Space Dandy is like if that guy got his own series, but that was what I was told I haven't seen it yet. Outlaw Star was a great classic one and I have nostalgia for the original Tenchi Muyo (although it may be dated now and the voice actor for the protagonist wasn't good). DO NOT watch the Tenchi's after, especially the one with the main character in the space police or whatever, it is ungodly bad. There were many things I wasn't crazy about but if it was just based on plot and characters, Death Note and Code Geass were very well done (Geass has one of the most well done endings to a series imo). I've seen Outlaw Star, it wasn't my favorite because the story was a bit incoherent at times. Just as well I saw a few episodes of Attack on Titan and it didn't really grab me, but - I'm willing to give it another shot. Oh, and Space Dandy. Definitely saw that. Not a favorite though either, I prefer anime's with a set storyline instead of a joke-of-a-day type deal. Definitely a no go for Tenchi Muyo. Harem anime just ain't my cup o' tea. Death note and Code Geass I'll definitely watch for the sake of saying I watched it. People never shut up about it. That upcoming list, looks pretty good though. Hopefully there'll be some dubs. I cannot into moonspeak unless I have to. Yea I said Tenchi was a nostalgia thing for me, I saw it as a kid on toonami. As I said I haven't seen Space Dandy so I will take your word for it. There were two big issues I had with AoT. First was that they used the dramatic moment thing too much, characters mad big deals and froze in terror too often. Second was the pacing. It starts out at a decent pace but then a couple episodes in it slows down, like really slows down for about a half dozen episodes. Personally I think the show really picked up when you get to see an excursion from the Scout Brigade. The Outlaw Star one was a little depressing to hear though, but understandable. I also saw that one as a kid but I rewatched part of it recently and I still liked it. If you haven't seen it yet, Moribito is good and Seven Samurai was decent. There is a standalone movie (unrelated to any series as far as I know) called Sword of the Stranger and it is almost the pinnacle of smooth animation and choreography in combat scenes. Hm. Assuming you mean pure science fiction and fantasy, or both. Legend of Legendary Heroes (fantasy) Steins;Gate (Sci Fi) Eureka Seven (sci fi, adventure) Hatakaru Mauo Sama Magi perhapes. If you want stuff along the lines of FMA or Trigun however, those are even fewer in between. My advice is to expand your wings a bit. You might like Nanatsu no Taizai Yeah, it is a bit restraining to only look for fantastical action shows, though I do like some mech anime. Turn A Gundam comes to mind, been meaning to watch the regular series. It's not for the lack of trying though. Romance, Slice-of-life, Horror, I'm not real big fans of. I can deal with a normal setting for Mystery and/or Comedy though. Well my entire list is pretty good, you might not like them all however. And no problem.

| Jojo's Bizzare Adventure Severing Crime Edge Wolf and Spice Legend of Legendary Heroes Clannad Anno Hana: The Name of the Flower We Saw that Day Gintama Chihayafuru Usagi Drop Ino x Boku SS Love Come SNAFU Eureka Seven (not the sequel) World of C: Possibility of Money and Soul the Monogatari Series Servant x Service Astorrates Toy Zetsuen no Tempest Are all good. What I can remember right now. If you're looking for something specific, you might want try listing genre, demographic, subject, etc. Fantasy/Sci-Fi. It may be a bit specific but I usually prefer if it doesn't involve teens in a high-school-like environment. I'm already in my teens, I don't need more of that shit. If you need something more specific my favorite anime's are: FMA: Brotherhood, Samurai Champloo, Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun... Dragonball. Thanks, in advance. I'm willing to watch new/different stuff but I mostly go on by recommendation rather than testing it out for myself. #140 -

Be warned though, Cormac McCarthy's writing style is a bit funky, he is not a huge fan of standard punctuation and syntax, but it helps get across his imagery and convey emotions in dialogue at the same time.

| Not actual spoiler Sorry if bad English, second language. The first book has two interrelated plots, and the one from Kafka, a 15-year-old boy that runs away from his father's house, blew my mind. It's written in first person, in present time so I identified with that character on a very deep level. It's very sensible but no cheesy at all. Suspense is built quite subtely, and it has some surrealistic touch that leaves you wondering and desperate for another chapter. John Updike described it as a "real page-turner, as well as an insistently metaphysical mind-bender". A quote: “Memories warm you up from the inside. But they also tear you apart.” About the second book, Wikipedia says: "The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a 1984 postmodern novel by Milan Kundera, about two women, two men, a dog and their lives in the Prague Spring period of Czechoslovak history in 1968" Which is true, but only in the surface. Kundera takes four characters and peers into the deeps of their loves, desires, fears and dreams. Not precisely in a psycological way, but in a metaphysical one. All together with a huge criticism of communism and politics in general. A quote: “Anyone whose goal is 'something higher' must expect someday to suffer vertigo. What is vertigo? Fear of falling? No, Vertigo is something other than fear of falling. It is the voice of the emptiness below us which tempts and lures us, it is the desire to fall, against which, terrified, we defend ourselves.” | ||

| Mistborn, by Brandon Sanderson. One of the best fantasy settings and plots that I've read (And I'm a fantasy nerd, I read a lot). Worldbuilding rivaling that of GRRM. Breaks a lot of fantasy tropes and another book tying in to it is coming out later this year! Also has a video game being made a a few hundred years before the book and the possibility of a movie being made soon. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera Not actual spoiler Sorry if bad English, second language. Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon That should give you an idea of the style of reading I like. A lot of imagery and symbolism and some surrealist descriptions. Can't say I do, I haven't heard of those authors until today. Well, I have heard of one of McCarthy's works, 'The Road', but other than that this is new to me. Granted, I haven't finished High School, so that may have something to do with it. Or the fact that I haven't been reading that much, too much vidya games I'm afraid. Thanks for your input, though! | ||

Valid (01/05/2015) [-] Hello, and thank you for summoning me. After reading through the comments, I'm guessing that Skyrim was targeted towards a new and bigger audience. For example, I really don't like RPGs but I did like Skyrim. Possibly because it's "casual" as you guys have suggested, but there's nothing wrong with it. I'd actually appluad Bethesda for their marketing technique on this. You can't deny it, Skyrim is still popular as modrim. #195 -
lordraine (01/05/2015) [-] I'll never applaud throwing away the customers and fanbase that made you what you are. If they wanted to appeal to a broader audience, they were free to make another IP like they did with Evil Within or Battlecry. They could have easily just made a new RPG franchise and marketed it towards more casual gamers if they'd wanted to. That shit has no business being in Elder Scrolls. At all. TES was hauled out of the fucking garbage can by fans of Daggerfall and Arena. You honestly expect us to appreciate being thrown the fuck away the moment it becomes convenient for them to do so? Bethesda could have appealed to a broader audience while still keeping Skyrim an Elder Scrolls game. They didn't. Skyrim is no more an Elder Scrolls game than Fallout 3 is a Fallout game. In fact, Skyrim is worse than Fallout 3. Fallout 3 is an incredibly shitty Fallout game, but is at least partially excused by Bethesda having zero experience at making a Fallout game and not really understanding what the fuck they were doing. But they have plenty of experience making Elder Scrolls games. Fallout 3 was a mistake. Skyrim was a calculated decision. Laud them for it if you will. That just makes you part of the problem.
