Well, there was the whole 'clone slavery' thing, and recently a kal'el tried to destroy earth and use the energy of it's destruction to go back in time to save krypton.

Fair Enough. The 'hope' definition seems kind of too big a coincidence for me xD
Especially considering how many members of house kal'el have been morally dubious or downright evil.

True but I think it matches Kal-el and his parents values so I don't question it that much.
I don't remember any member of the House of El being "morally questionable": Kal and his parents certainly aren't and neither are Kara and her parents but I don't know a lot about the El's beside the "main" ones.

It's the Crest of house Kal'el. It symbolises hope on Earth, but it doesn't mean hope on Krypton, it was a serpent on a shield or some shit.

" In 2004, Mark Waid's Superman: Birthright series says the S-Shield is the Kryptonian symbol for "hope" and Superman believes it may have begun as a coat of arms for the House of El. Later, writer Geoff Johns confirmed it was indeed a coat of arms, as well as a symbol for hope."
Taken from Wikipedia.

Obviously there are various interpretations but if I'm not mistaken, most continuities adopted the Birthright definition. So, we're both right.

well the above fight is after he wrecked the world engine, so Zod was UBER pissed at kal, so i think if supes ran to a deserted area, zod would have followed him to get his revenge.

Besides this is just one fight of supermans history, lets look back at any justice league or w/e. He causes untold destruction in any fight he ever has...he doesnt have to be responsible for every death, but he does wreck the shit out of the city. I don't think a jounalist's salary can cover that, so it has to be coming from somewhere

He was pissed at Kal but he knew the best way to hurt him was to attack innocent people.

As for previous fights, he rarely uses his strength precisely because he knows what happens (the famous "World of Cardboard" speech is a great example of this). But yes, when he (and other members of JL) uses his strength, things get destroyed, which is why he only uses it when fighting strong opponents.
The thing is, that destruction caused by the fights is always better than the alternative, it's the lesser of two evils.

As for the money to repair the damage (ignoring heroes help, like the Flash who usually helps clean up the area), I think the majority of the money comes from the government, Luthor and Wayne Enterprises.
