When the miners striked demanding higher pay, she let them riot. At this point, the coal was running out anyway, and other sources of fuel had been sourced, meaning the closing of the mines going to happen someday regardless, just she sped it up by letting them strike.

To give an idea of how bad it was, the UK was operating on a 3-day working week, because their wasn't enough power to keep everything open. My parents told me how they only went to school 3-days a week, and the power would be constantly going on and off.
