Hi there. My name is Simplescience, my real first name being Matt. I came to funnyjunk in the hopes of making it a little better than when I found it. Optimistic, cheerful, and a logical thinker, I do my best to make other people feel better if they are down.

My profile picture is of Mr. Game and Watch using the move Judgement: 9. This move has a 1/10 chance of bringing up a 9. If a 9 comes up and it connects with an opponent, it is a One-Hit Knock Out.

I've done it and am going to restart this summer, you'll be fit as hell in a few weeks.

"I plan on taking it in the summer"

You know, that it´s impossible to even learn the basics of a martial art during 1 summer, do you?

Depending on how intensely you train you can learn Krav-Maga very quickly, it's designed that way.

I never said I intended on becoming a master or anything like that. I meant it as it will be the start of my training. I've always wanted to take martial arts, and I was able to through a lucky break.

I don't expect to be able to break cement or any of that stuff by the time summer is over. I just want to begin learning martial arts now so that I can defend myself in the future if the situation arises.

Eh, in 3-4 months you can learn the basics, but you won't get into any of the intermediate technique or even advanced technique.

I don´t really know,... as the basics, I understand that you have the stances and at least the defense completely by heart. I don´t think that after 3-4 months, you will without thinking be able to react with the most suitable stance/defence. But well, that´s just my opinion, I guess...

Of course not, rarely is the most ideal reaction in the basics. the basics just teach you the most broad things to give you the best all-over training, whereas the advanced techniques get into specific situations.

Well, okay, than it´s just our understanding of basic that differs, sorry:D
To me, it was after 3 years that I would consider the basics as learned...

Well I did TKD for about 9 years, that takes about a whole year to learn the basics, but Krav Maga is much more to the point, no forms/misc. stuff, very no frills (training mirrors the style i suppose) You could definitely learn the basics of krav in 3 months.

I did Kendo and Karate, both for 8-9 years, dunno about Krav Maga. I guess, I´d have to inform myself to understand what you´re talking about, but I´ll just trust your opinion on this point.D

If you're not in any israeli security/militar/intelligence organization, you're just taking a poor rip off course from private business men.

Or you could have a retired agent of any of those as your instructor and get the real thing.

There are also tiers to Krav, 1, 2, and 3.

Most instructors teach 1-2, what you refer to as "real" krav is tier 3 and it's nasty.

No need to apologize. It's my own fault, really.

When I write out my comments, I usually proofread them, as I've found out during my time here that even a single typo has the potential to ruin an entire message. Some of the comments I type up (Ok, about 80%) nearly reach the character limit, so it annoys me when I miss one while proofreading.
