His mother shares some of the blame for not doing anything, but he was saturated in escape routes where he had irrefutable control if he didn't like the way she was treating him. His manager, his producer, his help, they were all paid to say yes; not to mention he lived on his own as well. The US music industry is much more at fault than his mother is.

I'd disagree. While how we act is definitely influenced by our genetically programmed personalities, what really defines us as who we are is our experience. If a kid is never told no and given total social and financial freedom during a crucial part of his up bringing, when somebody finally cracks down on him, his reaction is going to be horrendous. As for drugs and alcohol, since Justin Beiber became famous he hasn't had to worry about drug tests, jobs, school, or anything the majority of us do. Sure he has the "stress" of performing and writing songs (we all know there's no way in hell that shit puts any effort into any of his music and doesn't write a single note), but his life is so existentially different than ours because of the industry that he has lost touch of what normal behaviour is. Furthermore, he is completely surrounded by people in the exact same situation, without anybody there to ground him. As for the music industry not being a part of the US, I'm going to overlook the blatant commercial and economic ties to the United States, and point out that just like with any other US company, the music industry and its product are the responsibility of the United States. If an oil company exploits and mal-uses a Canadian made pipe and there's a spill, the reaction wouldn't be to deport the pipe and shift blame onto Canada, it would be to hold the Oil Company accountable for it's actions and improper use of equipment. It would be the job of the United States government/board of ethical business activities to ensure that the Oil Company would change it's behaviour to prevent it from happening again.
TL;DR I disagree.
