the symbolic importance of marriage in my opinion went out the window with widespread divorce but apparently all those "true Christians" seem to overlook that part. second marriage is a ceremony in the u.s. only churches do that the government just makes you sign the paper and is ordained by a judge in reality being married by a church without filing papers with the court means your not actually married legally. last the legal differences are huge and filing joint taxes saves couples thousands of dollars do to lower taxes for couples as well as allowing you spouse to have life joint life insurance which is a major issue as well ultimately the only people against marriage are only against it because they hate gay people and if they had their way they would still outright outlaw homosexuality
