well to be fair. When people said they didn't want boy-scout superman, I doubt they meant they wanted Batman v2.0, now with superpowers and heat vision.

I don't want to impress something upon others, but marriage is one of those things that has traditionally been a part of progressing into adulthood. Today more than ever, you can avoid having children for whatever degree of time and it's becoming more acceptable (to my own chagrin) to have open relationships - so having a "loveless" marriage isn't that much of a con - so I'm not sure why people are so inclined to avoid marriage aside from the possibility of being raped in divorce court.

Tax benefits, broader social acceptance, etc. I know that this is a hard thing to choose in favor of the possibility of "true love" and whatnot, because having a copartner involved with you in every step is absolute the best, but there is still much to gain otherwise.

Additionally, I know that marriage expectations are generally held in regards of women, but they also remain for men in most of the same cultural settings. What do we do for them? I think there is a brutal irony in these Eastern societies that are shifting towards the acceptance of female independence but also decrying the growing "herbivore men" who eschew marriage for similar reasons.
