I think you're looking too deeply into this. I assume from how it is set up that they wanted the person to say consoles so that the actors could come in and say he would beat up people who prefer console to PC. That is of course assuming that the whole thing was not a set up or that this is actually what they said and not just text somebody added to the picture.

I mean, if you're interested in someone as more than a friend, there's not too much risk at making some kind of advance. Worst case you'll know you tried and you can move forward, so long as you don't pour your heart out over them, not much can be said about you for trying.

I look at the pic, I understand the concept. The method below is "easier" to process but takes unnecessarily long time. The idea is to "how much does it take to get from 12 to 32" while using the easiest numbers to process. You add 3 to 12 to make 15, then you just add 5 to get 20, add 10 to get to 30 and add the remaining 2. Then you just summarize the numbers you used. My guess is that it makes no sense in this particular case, because the classic method is much more efficient, but with more complex numbers it might be easier to just use the method below. I suppose it's about the effort kid's brain has to make which makes the difference. As if trying to make the processing go as smooth as possible. I know many people use the method below when dealing with bigger numbers, difference is that they use it in their heads only, without even realizing (the number processing itself, many people first deal with 100s/10s then 5s and then the rest). But when it comes to writing down stuff, they use only the classic method.

TL;DR: This particular case makes no sense, but it's about the concept that will be used in the long run.
